Macs "still" just work when connected to an HDTV

Oh the joys of a new operating system and the desire to find something new. Don't get us wrong, Snow Leopard has some much appreciated new features -- even if Perian isn't parsing MKV files in the new Quicktime -- but easy connectivity to an HDTV isn't one of them. We are happy that our friend Aron from TUAW discovered how easy it is to connect his Mac to an HDTV, but we wrote up almost the exact same story over three years ago. So Macs and HDTVs have just worked, since at least Tiger, but the new TV logos are a nice touch though.

Tiger display settings.

Check out this Mac Mini/Plasma setup

We found this setup over at TUAW where they feature everything Apple. They have had a few Mac Minis, and one Power Mac G5, media centers before but really nothing worth mentioning. But this rig is impressive. The first pic just looks like the Mac Mini hanging there but the really magic is behind the 42 1080p Westy. Check out the read link and be prepared to be amazed.

Widescreen iPod video is next?

iPod Video WidescreenTUAW is on the case, letting us know that the latest Apple rumor is a 3.5" touchscreen-enabled media player. The mockup pictured here is from Rainy Day Magazine. We've been waiting for a widescreen video iPod for a while, but TUAW doesn't expect it till the end of the year if at all. I just want to know if they'll let me download 720p versions of Lost from iTMS.

So no Apple plasma HDTV after all :(

New Powerbook

Blah blah blah, laptop, blah blah, iPod, blah blah blah, dual core Intel processor. No 50" plasma screens, no UDI. The best news we got was DVI out on the new laptops, no word if that will include HDCP, but unless they'll upgrade your laptop to Blu-ray or HD-DVD, who cares?

I'm so disappointed, check out the rest of the coverage of the Jobsy one's keynote on Engadget and TUAW.
