Samsung's B-7000 LCD treating owners to trippy visuals? UPDATE: Samsung responds

Samsung B7000 LCDTV blotter
Samsung's UN-B7000 LCD HDTV hits all the right style checkmarks, with edge-mounted LEDs handling the backlighting and the Touch of Color fascia. The review unit at FlatpanelsHD even managed to score pretty high marks in color accuracy, even illumination and black levels. Unfortunately, a nasty "trailing" effect showed up on the 46-inch model when viewing fast-moving objects and totally ruined the party. Credit the reviewer for trying different settings and upgrading the firmware to get rid of the problem, but to no avail. Chime in below and let us know if you've seen this same behavior, or if the reviewer just got a bad unit; unless your TV-viewing habits include a square of blotter paper, of course.

UPDATE: Samsung has told us that any of the "trailer" visuals are not an artifact of the set. A run through our own comments and various internet message boards does not turn up any consistent complaints about these motion blur-type problems, either.

HD Trailer Tuesday

It has been a few weeks since we have had the chance to do one of these but luckily Apple has been too busy as well to update the site with loads of content. They have only added a few new high-def movie trailers to their site and even though today might be a bad day for bandwidth (for Apple - not us), ah, what the heck. First up is Driving Lessons staring one of the boys from those popular Harry Potter flicks. The clip of course looks good in high-def, we love the transitions, but the movie looks surprisingly good. Give it a chance. But if you only have time in your busy day to watch one of these high definition clips, you must watch A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. Wow. Looks amazing in HD but to be honest, this movie is going to be all about the content and most people would be happy with a 480i version if the flick turns out to be half as good as the preview. Lets Go To Prison looks funny and you might just need a laugh or two after Saints. If you are new to this, start at the 1080p option if you have a 'beefy' computer, but more then likely you are going to need to drop down to ether the 720p or 480p option if the system is a little older. That's fine though, the 720p and 480p clips still look great. Enjoy!

HD Trailer Tuesday

Last week we started back up our HD Trailer Tuesday with a bang and then this week Apple has added four high-def trailers to their site and their all look great in high-def. If you only have time for one trailer this week, check out The Departed. It looks simply amazing with a story of the Boston Police raging war on organized crime with Jack Nicolson as the head crime lord. John Heder, of Napoleon Dynamite fame, is back and stars along side Billy Bob Thornton in School For Scoundrels; it does look funny as it should with the cast. Viva Pedro looks great in HD but it seems a bit too artsy-fartsy for most and the last one for the week stars Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin. The trailer really does look great in high-def even though the flick doesn't. Check 'em out but don't forget that these run on Quicktime and your computer needs to have some power to run the high-res 720p and 1080p files.

HD Trailer Tuesday

Mission Impossible IIIApple's been quite busy getting out more HD trailers over the last few weeks, so there's plenty of downloading to go around. If folks missed the "Mission Impossible III" Super Bowl spot, Apple added it to the list on the same day it hit the high-def airwaves and it's highly recommended. Don't forget to comment if any trailers are a "must see" or a "don't waste your bandwidth".
