It has been a while since we have done one of these, but it is about time to start it back up again. Apple has been regularly adding high-def content to their Movie Trailers site. These trailers are encoded in H.264 and can be displayed in 480p, 720p, or 1080p. The higher resolutions requires some good 'ol CPU horsepower but if you have it, use it. These trailers are simply stunning in HD. If you only have a few minutes to spare, the HDBeat team would recommend you watch the trailer for ether Babel or Children of Men. Both look like they are going to be great films and the trailers look amazing in high-def. If you have a few more minutes to kill, check out The Prestige staring Christopher Bale of Batman Begins fame and then American Hardcore's view of music in the eighties. Both are great. We are sorry to report though the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer is -- well, its a waste of bandwidth.
Supes is back, and he's on Xbox Live (he cheats at Halo 2, that flying thing is a total glitch). Sure you can download HD trailers on your PC but that might not be hooked up to your TV. Superman Returns, one of the first movies made with HD DVD in mind, hits theaters on the 28th.
One of the laments of my summer drought post was that one of my favorite programs, Entourage on HBO-HD, would not be in high definition since it hasn't for the first two seasons. However today they have posted up a 720p trailer on Xbox Live Marketplace (along with a theme and gamer pics) proudly touting itself as a Hi-Def trailer, so it seems likely that we will get 1080i display of the adventures of Vince & friends. Summer HDTV watching is definitely looking up now.
Supes is back, June 30, 2006.
Not really much else to say but...Marlon Brando?
First M Night Shyamalan, and
now this
guy. Going on and on about "the theater experience" and what viewing movies at home can't hope to match.
There's always somebody who (to me at least) feels their theater going way of life is threatened by HDTV, home theaters
and the like. As a result, there is a list of reasons why movie theaters rock. I was quite unsatisfied with his list so
of course, I made my own.
Because one of the few things we like better than HDTV is explosions, pastel suits and Miami......in HD. I have no idea if this movie is going to be good or not but all you have to say is Crockett and Tubbs and I am there.
Still no word on why none of our favorite animated series are in high definition, but check out
this guy. From the same people who brouught you Futurama, Ren & Sttimpy, and the uhhhh, unforgettable sex
scene in Team America: World Police, comes "Billy Bastard".
