Disney shows off Cars' interactive features in trailer

Those patiently awaiting November 6th can now tide themselves over a bit, as Disney has released a trailer that actually shows off some of the much-anticipated bonus features that will reside on the Cars Blu-ray disc. The well-detailed "Car Finder" game (pictured above) purportedly enables viewers to "search for over 200 models of cars hidden throughout the movie and even race the clock to find a specific car in a frozen frame of film." Also shown is the "Cine-Explore" mode, where you'll be treated to a making-the-movie walkthrough with John Lasseter. Go on, hit the read link to give it a look yourself.

HD Trailer Tuesday

It has been a few weeks since we did one of these but Apple has been slow on adding high-def movie trailers to their site. In case this is new to you, Apple streams high-def movie trailers on their site encoded in 480p, 720p, and 1080p that look amazing -- that is if your computer can handle the high resolution. The two new trailers on the site, Home of the Brave and Fur, both have great picture quality and all but one of the two doesn't strike our fancy. Home of the Brave looks like a modern day Black Hawk Down situation, but Fur, well, maybe it is too artsy-fartsy for us high-def heads. It just isn't our cup of tea. Both of the trailers are short however and you might want to check out both of 'em anyways; who knows, Fur might be your flavor.

Tokyo Game Show and X06 footage on Xbox Live Marketplace starting tomorrow

Microsoft had a pretty good response (1.5 million individuals downloading 5 million pieces of content over several days certainly qualifies as pretty good) to their Bring Home E3 event on Xbox Live, allowing Xbox 360 owners to download large amounts of trailers, demos and high definition video direct from the show floor, so for the next nine days they'll be doing it all over again. With the Tokyo Game Show and their X06 event in Spain coming in the next few days, they plan on making over 100 pieces of content available including HD video from the show. Since our passes to the shows appear to have been lost in the mail, we're definitely feeling this. Add in the ability to queue up 5 downloads at a time added in the Spring dashboard update and it's even easier to get everything posted for the next nine days. Make sure that you do because some of it will disappear forever after September 29th. We're still playing the Lost Planet demo from E3, as good as reading about all the HD gaming coming our way is, we'll take actually experiencing it at home any day.

Unreal Tournament 2007 high-def trailer available for download

Quick note here: we wish that we would have found this trailer for our HD Trailer Tuesday Wednesday. Game trailers usually isn't our cup of tea but this trailer looks amazing in high-def, simply amazing. Unfortunately, Gamespot requires you to have their $1.69 a month subscription to view the high-def version of the trailer otherwise you are stuck watching it in 'ol SD. Games like these make people build gaming rigs to hook up to their HDTV to get the full experience.

Do you game via a PC on your HDTV?

HD Trailer Wednesday

Yeah, we know. It is suppose to be HD Trailer Tuesday, but we just didn't get a chance to have one yesterday and keeping the new Mitsubishi 1080p projector in mind, it is better late than never. So, we then present to you HD Trailer Wednesday. Apple unloaded a slew of high-def trailers within the last week and if you only have time for one HD trailer today, check out The Reaping. The jury is still out on whether this movie is going to be any good or not but the trailer sure does look amazing in high-def. Fast Food Nation looks rather interesting but nothing to take very seriously. Talking about not taking something seriously, Jack Black has a new film coming out called Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. Heed our warning: if you 'understand' Tenacious D or think Jack Black is always funny, watch this trailer; if you think he is an idiot, don't waste your time here. The rest of the trailers are alright but nothing to special.

HD Trailer Tuesday

Even though this is only "HD Trailer Tuesday's" third run since we started it back up, we can honestly say it is going to be hard for any other week to beat the quality of the three high-def trailers Apple added this week. First, Renaissance shows that high-def isn't all about bright colors and flashy camera shots. This trailer is in all black and white, but it looks stunning in high-def. Simply, breathtaking. Here is hoping that this film goes right to one of the high-def media formats. The second flick, Employee of the Month, enlists an all-star cast of comedy giants, including Dane Cook, Efren Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite), Tim Bagley, Dax Shepard, and Andy Dick. Plus, the whole plot revolves around Jessica Simpson and when we mean revolves, we are implying that she is involved but it doesn't appear that she 'acts' that much. The last trailer exhibits everything high-def has to offer. The Black Dahlia looks like one of those movies that is destined to go right to the top of all the award banquets. Take the time today and watch all three of these high-def trailers. It will be worth it.

HD Trailer Tuesday

It has been a while since we have done one of these, but it is about time to start it back up again. Apple has been regularly adding high-def content to their Movie Trailers site. These trailers are encoded in H.264 and can be displayed in 480p, 720p, or 1080p. The higher resolutions requires some good 'ol CPU horsepower but if you have it, use it. These trailers are simply stunning in HD. If you only have a few minutes to spare, the HDBeat team would recommend you watch the trailer for ether Babel or Children of Men. Both look like they are going to be great films and the trailers look amazing in high-def. If you have a few more minutes to kill, check out The Prestige staring Christopher Bale of Batman Begins fame and then American Hardcore's view of music in the eighties. Both are great. We are sorry to report though the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer is -- well, its a waste of bandwidth.

Superman Returns HD trailers on Xbox Live Marketplace

Supes is back, and he's on Xbox Live (he cheats at Halo 2, that flying thing is a total glitch). Sure you can download HD trailers on your PC but that might not be hooked up to your TV. Superman Returns, one of the first movies made with HD DVD in mind, hits theaters on the 28th.

Via Major Nelson, the HD content available is:
  • Superman Returns Trailer #2 (480p/720p)
  • Superman Returns Trailer #3 (480p/720p)
  • Superman Returns: Action (480p/720p)
  • Superman Returns: Ride (480p/720p)
  • Superman Returns: Greatest American Hero (480p/720p)
  • Superman Returns: Power (480p/720p
Now a whole new generation of kids can jump off their garage roof w/ homemade capes and costumes learning the very important life lesson: You can't fly. Or maybe that was just us.

Behind the scenes of the Halo 3 trailer in 720p

As if you didn't have enough high definition E3 videos clogging up your hard drive, here's one more. Bungie is showing off the making of the Halo 3 trailer that closed Microsoft's pre-E3 conference. Beyond viewing the the developers of the game in high-def, you can also get a look at the music of the trailer and various pre-production shots, unused angles from the real-time cinematic and some hints about where they are going with what what is apparently the end of the Halo trilogy. According to Bungie you will also be able to download the high def version of this video to your Xbox 360 via the marketplace in a week or two. We like HD, we don't like waiting, head over and get the video in 720p in WMV or QuickTime format right now.

Entourage 720p trailer on Xbox Live Marketplace; Season 3 HD?

Johnny DramaOne of the laments of my summer drought post was that one of my favorite programs, Entourage on HBO-HD, would not be in high definition since it hasn't for the first two seasons. However today they have posted up a 720p trailer on Xbox Live Marketplace (along with a theme and gamer pics) proudly touting itself as a Hi-Def trailer, so it seems likely that we will get 1080i display of the adventures of Vince & friends. Summer HDTV watching is definitely looking up now.

Xbox Live Marketplace brings home HD E3 trailers and demos [Halo 3 update 2]

Ok so thats basically direct marketing speak from Microsoft. But it's true. This week Xbox 360 owners have been able to download trailers and demos of some of the same games that they will be showing in LA. Yesterday I was able to download the demo for Test Drive Unlimited (which is not so unlimited, the demo has a 15 minute timer boooo!) and Lost Planet, as well as the trailers for a lot of other games, movies and apparently there will also be video straight from the E3 floor. If you don't have a 360, you can also get a hold of the high definition trailers from Xboxyde. To find out exactly what and when things are available, check out the Marketplace section of MajorNelson's website.

We'll get back to you after Microsoft's pre-E3 showcase, in the meantime, check out live coverage at Joystiq.

Superman Returns HD trailer available on Apple.com

Supes is back, June 30, 2006. Not really much else to say but...Marlon Brando?

Batman made a worthwhile return to the box office last year, and even though we don't go to the movies much, we might have to make an exception.

Home theater vs. movie theater

The theater experienceFirst M Night Shyamalan, and now this guy. Going on and on about "the theater experience" and what viewing movies at home can't hope to match. There's always somebody who (to me at least) feels their theater going way of life is threatened by HDTV, home theaters and the like. As a result, there is a list of reasons why movie theaters rock. I was quite unsatisfied with his list so of course, I made my own.

Why home theaters rock
:
  1. The little screen: No bad seats in the house. Last time I went to see a movie on opening night, I showed up late and ended up in the first row needing a neck brace. No such thing here, my favorite seat is always available and perfectly positioned the way I want it. Someday all theaters will have digital projectors for a consistently high quality show, but not yet. If you need something larger, grab a projector and find the largest wall you have, problem solved.
  2. No interruptions (unless I want there to be):: If a cellphone goes off during a movie at home, I don't have to wonder what idiot forgot to turn his phone off, I know who it was and I can answer it if I want, the movie goes on pause and waits dutifully for my return. Try getting the projector operator to back up a few minutes because your mom wanted to know how you're doing and why you never call.
  3. Big sound: I've got big speakers and a little apartment. Only the best theater systems rumble the seats in a similar fashion (with bonus banging from my downstairs neighbors). Ok seriously, this is at best a push, movie theaters may have better sound systems, but mine is personally calibrated to my liking and I can usually get a DVD commentary or two.

HD Trailer for Miami Vice

Miami Vice 2006Because one of the few things we like better than HDTV is explosions, pastel suits and Miami......in HD. I have no idea if this movie is going to be good or not but all you have to say is Crockett and Tubbs and I am there.

"Billy Bastard: Amateur human" HD trailer available

Billy BastardStill no word on why none of our favorite animated series are in high definition, but check out this guy.  From the same people who brouught you Futurama, Ren & Sttimpy, and the uhhhh, unforgettable sex scene in Team America: World Police, comes "Billy Bastard".

If you liked any of the stuff I just listed, you'll probably get at least a chuckle out of this, look down the page for the 720p trailer (warning, some foul language, probably NWS).
