Sunflower Broadband subs say goodbye to Kansas City's KMBC-ABC and KCWE-CW

Time Warner Cable subscribers managed to avert a crisis early this morning, but it seems that Sunflower Broadband customers aren't so lucky. As it stands, KMBC-ABC and KCWE-CW -- both owned by Kansas City's Hearst-Argyle Television -- are being dropped from the provider. Both channels were being transmitted to customers in SD and HD, and until an agreement can be worked out, Sunflower has arranged to retransmit ABC Topeka affiliate KTKA in SD / HD so that customers can at least view ABC material. The good (or better, we should say) news? The carrier has vowed to "work around the clock with Hearst-Argyle to restore KMBC and KCWE under terms that are fair to its customers." And now, we wait.

South Florida's CW affiliate (WSFL-TV) shows up on DirecTV

There's been quite a lot of HD action down in South Florida of late, and out of seemingly nowhere, here comes a bit more. As of now, DirecTV subscribers in the region can tune to channel 39 WSFL in order to watch WSFL-TV in high-definition. Just last week, the region's The CW affiliate was still not viewable in HD via DirecTV, and while the station's own website still assures you that you'll need an OTA antenna in order to receive its HD signal, we've got photo evidence proving otherwise. We've no idea what sparked the addition, but hey, we certainly aren't complaining.

CW Network going all-HD next season, including WWE in January

We worried that The CW Network wouldn't be able to broadcast HD every night when it was originally announced, but it recently revealed that all of its dramas and comedies for the upcoming 2007-2008 season will be produced in high definition with surround sound. Unfortunately wrestling fans were left out of the party, but no longer, as PW Insider is reporting that SmackDown is finally going 1080i in January, following tests of HD technology by WWE over the last few months.
