DISH Network goes live with HD locals in Beaumont / Port Arthur, Texas

We'll admit, DISH Network's latest press release isn't all that thrilling for folks outside of Beaumont / Port Arthur, Texas, but it's entirely better to see something like this rather than another funeral invite for its latest satellite. DISH has just lit up HD locals in the aforesaid area, simultaneously putting another check mark on its summer rollout list and giving everyone else hope that they'll be next. Yeehaw!

Time Warner Cable adding a trio of HD channels in Waco / Austin, TX

Time Warner Cable just finished adding 11 high-def stations to the EPG in Irving / Las Colinas, Texas, but it seems to only be able to add channels in Waco / Austin in threes. Case in point: late last month, said region picked up a new trio, and now, we're hearing that a new trifecta is headed in starting July 17th. Curious for details? How's about Biography HD, Hallmark Movie Channel HD and Travel Channel HD. Sure, anything is better than nothing, but we have a sneaking suspicion that locals won't take too kindly to TWC choosing these three out of all the possibilities. Are we right, or are we right? TWC spreads Dallas' 11 newest HD channels to Irving / Las Colinas

So Time Warner Cable promised outlying areas of Dallas / Fort Worth that they'd have access to these 11 high-def channels within nine months of 'em landing in DFW. It has been just under four months now, and we're hearing that residents of Irving, Las Colinas and other surrounding towns are finally seeing the likes of CNN HD, TBS HD, History HD, A&E HD, Discovery HD, National Geographic HD and a smattering of others. Still, we're hesitant to believe that everyone in the region is covered, so be sure and let your status be known below. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

Austin, TX gets 3 new HD channels from Time Warner Cable

Not even a week after Time Warner Cable gifted subscribers in San Antonio with Disney HD and ABC Family HD, we've now learned that those very two have made their way over to the Austin system. Oh, but TWC threw in the totally enviable ESPNews HD while it was at it. Don't even think about griping SA -- even you know you're this carrier's favorite in the Lone Star State. TWC adds Disney HD / ABC Family HD in San Antonio, TX

Maybe we're off here, but does Time Warner Cable love its San Antonio market, or what? For the third time in as many months, subscribers in the region are being gifted with a few new channels, and this time, it's Disney HD (142) and ABC Family HD (141). Reportedly, the carrier now offers a whopping 63 high-definition channels in the Alamo City, while many of its markets suffer with just a handful. No, that's not bitterness you're detecting -- not at all. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

2HD / 2SD U-verse service arrives in Austin, Texas

Don't you worry, U-verse user -- AT&T hasn't ditched its 2 HD / 2SD initiative just yet. After quietly infiltrating areas of Missouri, Michigan and Georgia, we've located its latest target: Austin, Texas. According to a local, his service recently changed from 1 HD / 3 SD to 2 HD / 2 SD without so much as a peep from the carrier. For those unfamiliar, the change enables U-verse customers to record one HD program while watching another HD show live -- something that still cannot be done in most U-verse areas. C'mon AT&T, let's get this wondrous feature rolled out nationwide. Chop chop!

Planet Green HD coming to San Antonio TWC customers

Planet Green HD
Time Warner Cable customers in San Antonio, TX will be treated to one more HD offering today when Planet Green HD comes into the homestead via the copper pipe. If your HDTV is going to gobble up electricity and also do battle with your air conditioner as it spills heat into your abode, the least you can do is take in some eco-lifestyle content. Consider it a kind of "awareness offset" to your carbon footprint, okay? That is, unless you've voted with your pocketbook and picked up a green TV; in which case you might want to truly minimize your footprint by turning it off altogether. Look for it on channel 140, and drink lightly from the 250 hours of content. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

Comcast now airing Houston's MyNetworkTV affiliate (My20) in HD

Nothing too exciting about this one -- unless you're a fan of My20, that is. Houston, Texas residents can now find their local MyNetworkTV affiliate in glorious high-definition on Comcast. Aside from airing Astros games, a variety of movies and a good bit of original programming, the channel also becomes yet another available in HD from the local cable carrier. For those who haven't noticed it pop up in the EPG, it can be found on slot 304 right now.

Texas Rangers secure 86 HD games for 2008 season

With the start (on US soil, at least) of the 2008 MLB season right around the corner, the Texas Rangers are making darn sure their in-state rivals don't steal the HD limelight. Although a few less Rangers games will be produced in high-def compared to the Astros, there's still a healthy selection coming up. This season, a record-setting 86 tilts will be aired in HD, with 65 of those to show on FSN Southwest, 20 on KDFI (MyNetworkTV 27) and 1 on KDFW (FOX 4). Fortunately, fans in the area can get a glimpse of what they're in for when the season opener against the Seattle Mariners gets served up on FSN HD this coming Monday. For channel slots on various carriers as well as the entire 2008 HD schedule, you know where to head.

DISH Network gets official with HD locals in four more markets

Shortly after the AMC-14 launch went awry, we received confirmation that DISH Network's Spring HD rollout was still on track. Apparently things are going better than expected, as the satellite provider is getting official with HD locals in four new markets today. As we'd heard already, both Orlando and West Palm Beach, Florida have already been admitted into the HD locals club, while Austin, Texas and Flint, Michigan are joining days ahead of the scheduled April rollout. Best of all, DISH affirms that we'll be seeing lots more where this came from over the course of 2008, so if you're market hasn't been touched just yet, hang tight.

TWC adds 11 HD channels in Dallas, Texas region

Considering that Time Warner Cable has been beefing up the HD lineups in San Antonio, Austin, Waco and other areas of Central Texas, it's about time the slighted Dallas region got their due. As of today, TWC is dropping 11 high-def newcomers in Dallas, Plano, Richardson and Mesquite, and we're told that other local cities "should get the new feeds, and more, in the next nine months." According to company spokesman Gary Underwood, North Texas "should have around 50 HD channels, not counting HD video-on-demand, by the end of the year." These 11 bring the total in the area up to 31, which catapults it above FiOS TV but still situates it well below U-verse and the two sat providers. Still, you lucky North Texas folks are some of the few enjoying March Madness on Demand in high-def, so click on through for the list of newbies and hush that complaining for at least, oh, a week day or two. AT&T's U-verse headed to San Antonio's Vidorra Condominiums

There's no denying that fiber providers (we're looking at you, AT&T and Verizon) are on the offensive in an attempt to get new condos, college dorms and other dwellings wired with service from day one. A fortnight after AT&T announced plans to install U-verse into a forthcoming residence hall at the University of Houston, the outfit has now made public its plans to give the same luxury to residents of Vidorra Condominiums. The 20-story high-rise development in downtown San Antonio is currently being constructed, and when it's complete, it'll offer U-verse TV / internet to every single resident. 'Course, guests to the facility may be more intrigued by the private outdoor swimming pool and the top floor "sky room," but we're sure they'll only be able to stand so much outdoor amusement before those high-def images have them running back in.

AT&T stringing U-verse to more of Austin, Texas

Just four months after AT&T ran its U-verse television service to Austin, Texas, the firm is now announcing that folks located in the outskirts can hop in, too. Right now, greater than 150,000 living units in and around Austin can access U-verse TV and internet; more specifically, we're talking about regions of Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Sunset Valley, and West Lake Hills. Better still, AT&T's looking to take the service even further from the city center, and given that the Lonestar State was U-verse's first (and remains its favorite, some would say), we don't doubt that one bit.

AT&T's U-verse coming to University of Houston residence hall

Just in case a free iPod touch / iPhone isn't enough to convince you to attend a certain university, how's about dorm-installed U-verse? Hailed as the first planned deployment of AT&T's fiber-based services into student housing on a college campus, the University of Houston has teamed up with the aforementioned carrier in order to bring TV and broadband internet to "every room of a 547,000-square-foot residence hall under construction for graduate and professional students." When complete, The Calhoun Lofts will be home to some 1,000 U-verse connections, and while there's nothing specific said about the availability of HD channels, we can't imagine any upstanding Cougar settling for less.

Allegiance Communications rolls out array of HD channels

Though Allegiance Communications may not be known very well nationally, we're sure mid-sized markets in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas are quite familiar with the name. Nevertheless, said cable carrier has reportedly just "completed the first phase of channel additions for 2008," and there's definitely some HD love mixed in. According to Oklahoma's Tecumseh Countywide News, local residents can now access A&E HD, HGTV HD, Food Network HD, National Geographic HD and Starz HD on channels 972, 973, 975, 976 and 974, respectively. Better still, the outfit has also promised that ESPN2 HD will be joining the fold in the coming months, and just in case that still wasn't enough, subscribers can look forward to Chiller, Fox Business HD and RFD HD showing up in the not-too-distant future. Not bad for a rural carrier, huh?
