DISH Network gets official with summer / fall HD locals

Remember those 20-some-odd cities we heard were getting HD locals via DISH Network earlier this year? Yeah, the satcaster has just now gotten around to confirming what we already knew, but it's good to have something to hold 'em to, regardless. As of today, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Memphis, Tennessee can both look forward to seeing their local channels in high-definition, while 22 other markets are on the clock. As for timing, all we know is that these 22 will be launched sometime during summer / fall of 2008, but it looks like you'll be waiting patiently to find out if your market is closer to going live now or later. JVC hitting the pavement with summer road trip

JVC Hi-Def Experience
The company soon to be known as JVC Kenwood Holdings is kicking off its six month long summer road trip this month to show its wares to the masses. There are 30 pushpins on the "JVC Hi-Def Experience" map, spread across 19 states. That's a lot of ground to cover, so there are two teams -- one for the East and another for the West. The stops will coincide with local events, such as NASCAR races, fairs and festivals. This looks to be a JVC-only event -- Kenwood car stereos which seem like a natural fit for NASCAR events aren't featured. Check out the event web site and see where to go to get some quality time with Everio camcorders, P-series LCDs (with iPod docks and no longer available in Japan), or the Pioneer Kuro doppelganger HD100 projectors. If you catch it, share the details in the comments below!

DISH Network's summer HD locals rollout gets revealed

With April and May almost behind us, there's only one place left to turn our attention to: summer. During a recent DISH Network Retailer Chat, a snapshot was captured showing a list of locales in which the satcaster will hopefully flip on HD locals in the next few months. According to Satellite Guys' Scott Greczkowski, DISH will be turning the new list of cities on "as soon as it has them setup and running," and a number of those listed would have already been live if not for "technical delays." Ready to see if your town made the summertime cut? Head on past the break for the full list.

Weekend HD DVD/Blu-ray Reviews

It's the start of a nice 'ol lazy weekend and with the heatwave sweeping the country, you might want to stay inside. There isn't anything better then a big-budget summer blockbuster to kill cabin fever but with high-def discs costing a bit more then normal DVDs, it just makes financial sense to read some reviews first. So, we have compiled a review list of the best summer blockbuster flicks currently available on HD DVD or Blu-ray.

Entourage 720p trailer on Xbox Live Marketplace; Season 3 HD?

Johnny DramaOne of the laments of my summer drought post was that one of my favorite programs, Entourage on HBO-HD, would not be in high definition since it hasn't for the first two seasons. However today they have posted up a 720p trailer on Xbox Live Marketplace (along with a theme and gamer pics) proudly touting itself as a Hi-Def trailer, so it seems likely that we will get 1080i display of the adventures of Vince & friends. Summer HDTV watching is definitely looking up now.

What's on HDTV this summer?

If you follow our daily HDTV Listings (or just watch television, whatever works), you know that most network programs are coming to their seasonal end. This leaves us to the summer doldrums of reality shows, repeats and made for TV movies. That said, what are you planning to watch this summer?

Unfortunately, your choices may be very limited.
