Brionvega's Alpha LCD / DVD combo is deliciously sexy, on sale

There are times when form overcomes any missteps in function, and we'd probably say this is one of those times. On the downside, Brionvega's 19-inch Alpha LCD / DVD combo display tops out at 1,280 x 1,024 and obviously boasts a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it can be equipped with a digital DVB-T tuner. Beyond that, you'll find a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits of brightness, five-millisecond response time, 160-degree viewing angles and a small array of ports. There's also a pair of three-watt stereo speakers in there, and the integrated DVD player even handles VCD, SVCD and MP3 discs. If you've found yourself overran with disposable income, you can grab yours in orange / silver / black for €1,950 ($3,016) and up.

Syntax-Brillian seeks LCD panels from Compal for Olevia HDTVs

Syntax-Brillian just can't seem to have enough partners, as just four months into this glorious year, the aforementioned outfit has teamed up with Sharp, LG Display and now Compal Electronics. As predicted, the newest partnership is all about panels, and Compal will be providing 300,000 of 'em that will find their way into select Olevia LCD HDTVs. Notably, that figure is just the initial order -- the agreement suggests that over a million panels could eventually change hands between the two before 2008 comes to a close. C'mon Syntax-Brillian, we know you've got a few more partners to sync up with before Q2 ends.

Conklin-Intracom orders $1.6 million in IPTV set-top-boxes

Here's an interesting one. Conklin-Intracom -- known for its ability to deliver "next-generation content" via IPTV -- has apparently ordered up $1.6 million in IPTV set-top-boxes from Wegener. The order consists of a mixture of "Wegener's SMD-515 set tops and remote controls for IPTV services, including video-on-demand and integrated digital video recording." The aforementioned boxes support both MPEG-4 (H.264) and MPEG-2 decoding along with standard- and high-definition formats. The curious part, however, is the note that the STBs will be deployed "by several unnamed telco operators." Heck, we're not even told if said carriers are domestic or international. Still, we reckon secretive IPTV expansion is better than none at all.
