TWC lines up a new batch of HD additions for Southwest Ohio

Time Warner Cable came through on its promise to bring 14 new high-definition channels to Cincinnati, Ohio this month, so we don't see any reason why it'll let locals down in December. According to a blurb on the carrier's website, it is "currently involved in discussions" to bring a whole heap of new HD channels to Southwest Ohio. If agreements can be nailed down within the next few weeks, residents could see USA HD, Sci-Fi HD, MSNBC HD, Bravo HD, Science Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, ESPNews HD, FX HD, Weather Channel HD, Golf Channel HD, Versus HD, Big Ten Network HD, Cinemax HD and Starz HD. Cross your fingers for a Christmas miracle.

AT&T's U-verse wheels into Charlotte and Toledo

While residents of the Triangle / Triad patiently await the rumored launch of U-verse in their respective areas, citizens of the Queen City are casually sticking their tongue out and grinning all the while. Out of nowhere, AT&T announced its U-verse TV / high-speed internet / digital phone debut in the great state of North Carolina with delivery in Charlotte, with Bob Sellman, general manager, Home Solutions, for AT&T in the Carolinas, accurately proclaiming that "cable has been the only game in town for too long." In related news, U-verse services have also claimed yet another Ohio city, and this time it's the home of the Rockets. Toledo, Ohio residents can now phone up the provider to see if their domicile is within a serviceable range, though anyone who watched last month's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition should have seen this one coming.

Buckeye Cable gearing up for HD VOD, Start Over-type service

Buckeye Cable, which serves upwards of 150,000 customers in the greater Toledo / Sandusky, Ohio area, is looking to make some pretty big changes. The carrier has just upgraded its SeaChange VOD infrastructure in order to "dramatically expand" its HD video-on-demand offerings, and on top of that, it's also hoping to launch a Start Over-type service to help those who notoriously show up late for their favorite show. Better still, the company is looking to expand its linear HD lineup by adding in 15 to 25 new ones over the next 9 to 12 months. Pretty big words for a "small" provider -- guess we'll have to wait and see if it delivers.

Insight Digital 4.0 brings wheelbarrow full of HD stations to Columbus, OH

There's some serious competition for HD eyes in Columbus. Locals can choose from Wide Open West, AT&T, Time Warner Cable and Insight, and it's obvious the latter is looking to stay ahead of the pack when it comes to HD options. Tipster Joshua has chimed in to let us know that Insight Digital 4.0 has been unleashed upon the Ohio city, bringing with it too many high-def channels to count. If you're ready to be impressed, hop on past the break and scroll, scroll, scroll.

Dayton, Ohio broadcasters begin analog shutoff drills

You can now add Dayton, Ohio to the list of towns across America running analog shutoff drills to ensure that procrastinating locals, um, get the message. At approximately 6:58PM local time this evening, the city's five stations -- WBDT-TV, WDTN-TV, WHIO-TV, WKEF-TV, and WRGT-TV -- will broadcast a 60-second announcement in which viewers will be tasked to "look for a message which will only be visible on the digital signal." If they can spot the message, they're suitably prepped for February 17, 2009; if not, they'll be given a phone number to frantically call for help. We're told that tonight's test will be the first of a long line of drills taking place over the next 13 weeks, and given that a swath of folks will likely be out getting their Friday night party on, that's probably a good thing.

TWC placing 14 new HD channels in Cincinnati, Ohio

Hot on the heels of TWC announcing a new truckload of high-def channels for the Carolinas comes a similar announcement for Cincinnati, Ohio. According to a pamphlet being sent out to resident Time Warner Cable customers, 14 new ones are heading to the EPG by the year's end, with Palladia HD, Disney Channel HD, Discovery Channel HD, ABC Family HD, TLC HD, ESPNU HD, FOX News HD, Hallmark Movie Channel HD, CNN HD, WPTO HD (ThinkTV based in Oxford, OH) being added in November and Animal Planet HD, ESPNews HD, The Weather Channel HD and Science Channel HD in December. Is a celebration in order, or what? [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

Buckeye Cable adds four fresh HD channels

It's been way too long since Buckeye CableSystem customers in Ohio received any new HD channels, but this winter they'll be feasting their eyes upon four newcomers. As of this week, subscribers can find ABC Family HD, ESPNews HD, ESPNU HD and Disney HD on the EPG, which ought to be perfect for the sports / holiday favorites ahead.

TWC adds Food / Disney / Animal Planet HD in Columbus, OH

Time Warner Cable has been beefing up its HD lineup in Columbus, Ohio slowly but surely, and yet again, residents are being spoon-fed another trio as they await a fantasmical high-def explosion (that may or may not ever come, sadly). At any rate, Food Network HD, Disney HD and Animal Planet HD were all lit up in the EPG this week, giving locals three more ways to split their HD viewing hours. Invigorating, no?

AT&T brings U-verse Weather On Demand to Los Angeles and Columbus

Hey, remember that AccuWeather portal that launched earlier this month on AT&T's U-verse? Looks like the outfit is on the rollout train, as it's bringing the service to U-verse TV subscribers in both Columbus, Ohio and Los Angeles, California. For those unaware, the free Weather On Demand service is an "interactive feature that allows U-verse TV customers to find the weather information they want, in the city they want, at the time they want -- all at the touch of a button." 'Course, you could just look outside and / or trust the weatherman, but where's the fun in that?

Cincinnati's own WXIX gears up for HD news transition

Cincinnati's Fox 19 has come a long way over the years, but it's still lagging behind in one huge area: HD newscasts. Thankfully for residents of the Ohio city, all that's about to change... at least, according to news director Steve Ackermann. Reportedly, WXIX will move this week into its high-def-ready news set, and if all goes as planned, it could become the second station in the area to broadcast local news in HDTV within "a couple of weeks." We'll be watching.

TWC gifts Port Clinton, Ohio with ABC / CBS / PBS in high-def

These days, it's tough to live with a carrier that doesn't at least offer the big four broadcast networks in high-definition, particularly for those not living within antenna's reach of the station headquarters. For Time Warner Cable customers in Port Clinton, Ohio, the days of doing without ABC and CBS in HD are over, as the carrier has finally included the high-def feed of WTVG and WTOL in its lineup. It also threw in PBS HD (WGTE) to bring the grand total in the region to 29 HD stations, and while an addition of three may not seem like much, it's hard to think of three more important channels than these to have in HD. AT&T takes Total Home DVR to five more U-verse locales

Another day, another round of U-verse Total Home DVR rollouts. This time, the good news is being bestowed upon residents of Columbus, Flint, Kansas City, Lubbock and Oklahoma City, giving each of the areas the ability to watch HD / SD DVR recordings on other connected TVs in the home. Here's hoping AT&T takes care of the rest of y'all in short order -- we're eager for some more U-verse TV expansion, as nice as this update is and all.

[Thanks, Anthony]

Columbus, Ohio becomes Total Home DVR's next victim

What's with all the silence, AT&T? Every other day now it seems that you're blessing another region of your slowly expanding U-verse footprint with Total Home DVR, yet users are left to discover the upgrade on their own. But yeah, there's nothing wrong with a good surprise every now and then, and that's exactly what U-verse subscribers in Columbus, Ohio received late last week. Who's got next? Or, should we say, who wants it bad enough?

[Thanks, Matthew]

Time Warner Cable adding 13 new HD channels in Dayton, Ohio

Are you stoked, Dayton? You should be. Time Warner Cable has just sent out fliers to select customers in the region noting that a baker's dozen worth of HD channels are on the way, which will bring the grand total in the area to 46. Reportedly, the outfit will be pretty much finishing off its switched digital video (SDV) transition, as all 13 of the newcomers will be delivered via the bit-saving method. Ready to check out the exhaustive list? Head on past the break, you lucky, lucky Ohioan. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

AT&T launches Total Home DVR in Cleveland, doesn't bother to tell anyone

AT&T's continuing to roll its Total Home DVR software out at a fairly regular pace, and the latest region to get gifted is Cleveland, Ohio. 'Course, the provider has yet to officially spill the beans or anything, but it's not totally unheard of for areas to get the updated functionality without any indication that it was coming. And hey, we can't imagine U-verse TV customers being upset that rollouts are happening faster than the outfit's PR team can pump out releases, right?

[Thanks, Sean]
