DirecTV not done yet, brings HD locals to Norfolk-Newport News, VA / Charleston, SC

Just when you thought DirecTV was through after announcing HD locals for two more of its market today, in comes a couple of new reports confirming that both the Norfolk-Newport News, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina DMAs were gifted as well. For the former, customers can look forward to seeing their local ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS affiliates in high-def, while the latter region gets all of those plus WMMP (MyNetworkTV). Any others you'd like to toss our way while you're at it? We've got a list of HD-starved DMAs just begging over here.

Virginia's WAVY-TV joins the crowd, produces local news in HD

While citizens in the Roanoke-Lynchburg area have been enjoying their local news in high-definition for a few months now, WAVY-TV is bringing the same luxury to mums, dads and offspring in Norfolk / Portsmouth / Newport News / Hampton Roads. The NBC affiliate just flipped the switch this week, marking the first time local news was offered in HD anywhere in the Greater Hampton Roads area. So, are y'all impressed with the quality?

Cox lines up 4 more HD channels for Norfolk / Hampton Roads, VA

Although Cox subscribers up in NoVA have had the four HD channel we're about to mention for months now, we suppose late really is better than never. Reportedly, the carrier is gearing up to launch Bravo HD, USA HD, SciFi HD and CNBC HD in the Norfolk / Hampton Roads area of Virginia, with the go-live date pegged for July 24th. Is a happy dance in order?

DISH Network gets official with HD locals in Norfolk, VA

Don't look now, but DISH Network is holding tight to its Spring rollout schedule by introducing HD locals to Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News, Virginia here on the first day of May. Curiously enough, DISH isn't announcing any other new locales along with it, but we suspect a slow trickle of these releases will find their way out as the month continues. Competition just got a little stiffer, didn't it Cox?

Norfolk, Massachusetts: get ready for FiOS TV

For the third time in just two months, we're hearing that Verizon is planning to take its FiOS TV service to yet another nook in Massachusetts. This time around, it's the residents of Norfolk who can celebrate, as the Board of Selectmen in the town granted a cable franchise to VZW earlier this week. Thanks to the thumbs-up, some 2,700 more Bay State households are well on their way to having access to FiOS TV, and while a concrete date wasn't laid out for when those citizens could place their orders, we doubt it'll be long now.
