Comcast brings four new HD channels to Manassas, VA

Nary a fortnight after hearing that Verizon has dialed its FiOS TV sights in on Manassas, Virginia, along comes word that Comcast is giving its subscribers in the area four more reasons to stay put. Predictably, three of the four consist of ABC Family HD, Disney HD and Science HD, while the outcast is AMC HD. The carrier is now blasting out 38 high-definition channels in Prince William County (including HD on Demand), but that's still a couple shy of what Verizon's going to be packing when it sashays into town. Nothing like a little HD mudslinging, eh?

[Thanks, Ryan]

Comcast adds three HD channels in Jersey Shore

Yep, Comcast has added in three new HD nets along the New Jersey shore, and we're giving you exactly one guess as to which three we're talking about. ABC Family HD (195), Disney HD (239) and Science HD (194) were just added in Ocean and Monmouth counties (you did get that correct, right?), and we have a sneaking suspicion they'll be reaching other systems very, very shortly. Where will they end up next? Stay tuned, it's sure to be a thriller.

Charter brings 11 new HD channels to Osage Beach, MO

Right around a month after Charter saw fit to gift the greater St. Louis area with eight new HD channels comes word that little 'ole Osage Beach is next in line to get eleven of its own. Matter of fact, AMC HD, Animal Planet HD, CNN HD, TBS HD, The Movie Channel (TMC) HD, TLC HD, Smithsonian Channel HD, Science HD, Discovery HD, Versus / Golf HD and The Weather Channel HD should all be live in the area as we speak. The rather impressive list of additions brings the total in the region to 30. According to Steve Trippe, vice president and general manager for Charter Communications in Missouri, the carrier will "continue to increase its HD offerings," though no specifics beyond that were released.

ATMC Cable adds in Smithsonian HD

While many cable customers stuck with TWC, Charter, Cox or any of the other mega-cable carriers out there can't buy an HD channel, the relatively diminutive ATMC Cable is making sure its tiny footprint of North Carolina subscribers are getting the most for their dollar. Continuing its slow but steady rollout of high-def options, the outfit has just thrown Smithsonian HD into the mix. The channel lands softly on slot 961 and becomes partners with HDNet, HDNet Movies, HD Theater, Universal HD, National Geographic HD and MOJO HD in the appropriately titled HD Suite. Best of all, the company has promised even more offerings in the coming weeks, most notably USA HD and PBS HD.

Comcast expands its favorite trio to Montgomery County, Maryland

Check it -- Comcast subscribers in Montgomery County, Maryland are apparently the next bunch to receive the carrier's favorite trifecta: Science HD, Disney HD and ABC Family HD. According to a local, the lineup is still missing others like CNN HD and AMC HD, which have picked up by nearby Comcast systems already, but we suspect something is better than nothing. Oh, and if you haven't picked up on it yet, stay on the lookout for these three in your area -- odds are they're coming soon.

Portugal's ZON intros ZON BOX HD DVR

ZON TVCabo, a leading programming provider in Portugal, has introduced an all new HD DVR for its users: the imaginatively titled ZON BOX. The unit boasts a 160GB hard drive, USB 2.0 port, gigabit Ethernet and HDMI / component / S-Video / composite jacks for good measure. We're also informed that the box will come in handy here soon, with National Geographic HD (which recently launched on rival Portugal Telecom), MOV HD and possibly SportTV HD going live. The latter two channels would be dedicated to movies / TV series and sporting events such as Euro 2008, respectively. Unfortunately, we weren't able to solicit pricing information, but feel free to give the carrier a call and see what this gem will run you.

TWC readies 12 new HD channels for Southern California

For Time Warner Cable customers jealous over those eight newcomers received by Cox subscribers in the OC earlier this year, how's about this? According to the flier you see above, a full dozen will be hitting the lineup in Southern California sometime soon, but unfortunately, we can't determine if we're talking "tomorrow" soon or "next quarter" soon. Nevertheless, you folks in the area can look forward to seeing Disney HD, HGTV HD, A&E HD, Food HD, ABC Family HD, National Geographic HD, History HD, Versus / Golf HD, CNN HD, TLC HD, ESPNews HD and Discovery HD slip into the lineup, which ought to make your nightly viewing much more enjoyable. C'mon TWC, spread the love elsewhere, will ya? [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

Charter launching 5 new HD channels in Central Michigan

Charter already delivered TLC HD and Discovery HD to Western Michigan early last month, but now the carrier is gearing up to bring five newcomers to the central part of the state. According to a subscriber located in mid-Michigan, TBS HD, Discovery HD, TLC HD, CNN HD and Animal Planet HD are prepared to land on June 3rd (or so says a mailed flier), though there's no word on what slots they will fill or if any others will be following suit. Hey, with U-verse closing in, you've got to keep up appearances, right?

[Thanks, Matt]

Cox adding a dozen HD channels in Northwest Arkansas

Don't say Cox Communications never did anything for you, alright Arkansas? Based on a letter from the company received by one particular fellow in the area, the aforementioned carrier is gearing up to launch a full dozen new high-def channels in Northwestern Arkansas. Specifically, the regions of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville will be covered, but we suspect the newcomers could bleed out to other areas as well. So, what all will you be getting? Try Versus / Golf HD, Food HD, Travel Channel HD, Cinemax HD, Animal Planet HD, Science HD, CNN HD, TBS HD, TLC HD, Discovery HD, HGTV HD and NFL Network HD. No specific date was given, but all twelve should go live sometime this month.

[Thanks, Dwight]

Science, Disney and ABC Family HD head to Jacksonville, FL on Comcast

Another week, another report of Comcast's favorite trio popping up elsewhere in the country. This go 'round, Science HD, Disney HD and ABC Family HD have shown up to delight subscribers in Jacksonville, Florida, but considering that they just arrived in Atlanta, we suppose the drive down wasn't all that hectic, anyway. You know the drill -- keep your eyes peeled, your EPG may be the next to get infiltrated.

26 new HD channels for FiOS TV by the end of July?

Not many HD fans have had to go through a longer drought without new HD channels than Verizon FiOS TV customers, but with analog channels dropping like flies all across the country, we have a juicy little rumor that we just want to believe -- after all, we already feel lied to with spring half way over. The one thing that really adds credibility to the rumor that 26 newcomers will be added by the end of July is the fact that all but two markets will be analog free just in time for 26 new channels of high-def goodness. Many don't realize that Verizon is out of bandwidth on its QAM infrastructure, so in order to free up enough space for 100 HD channels -- unfortunately not all the new throughput will be dedicated to HD -- and to keep its promise to the FCC, Verizon is eliminating 49 analog stations. The bad news is that Florida and Texaswill have to wait another few months before they'll have access. The full list is after the break.

CBS College Sports Network goes HD, now showing on DirecTV

What goes with a fantastic earnings report like a new national HD channel? Nothing, that's what. Starting today, CBS College Sports Network -- formerly known as CSTV -- is making a high-definition flavor available to all of its cable, satellite and video distributors. Currently, the channel is already live on DirecTV (slot 610), though you'll only notice an MPEG-4 simulcast feed should you flip over right now. In the future, however, the station plans on airing a number of live NCAA football matchups as well as encore presentations of SEC football games and the 2008 NCAA Division I men's basketball championship. To be honest, we've never cared much for the typically second-rate material available on this network, but now that it's gone HD, we see no reason that it can't break out and score some really great events in the near future.

Planet Green HD headed to TWC's Brooklyn / Queens, NY lineup

Remember Discovery's latest HD channel, Planet Green? You know, that station formerly known as Discovery Home? Just a week after it goes live (in other words, tune in on June 11th with high hopes), Time Warner Cable is planning to launch it in the recently-stocked areas of Brooklyn and Queens, New York on slot 768. Per usual, the carrier's not saying when (of it) it'll filter out to other boroughs and / or the rest of the nation, but feel free to pop your NY zip code in the read link below to find out if any of the channel repositioning surrounding this addition will affect you. Bermuda's CableVision adds CNN HD and NFL Network HD

One may assume that Bermuda residents / visitors wouldn't even care to spend a spare moment inside watching the tube when the weather outside is so lovely. Said person obviously hasn't heard of Thursday night football on the NFL Network. Starting this month, Bermuda's CableVision has tossed in two new HD networks -- CNN HD (400) and NFL Network HD (407) -- which brings the grand total on the carrier to ten. It also noted that the HD surcharge will remain the same at $12 per month. If you haven't found a way to blow that incoming stimulus check (and you've got a thing for travel), um, here's your sign.

Cox adding five HD channels (SciFi included) in Las Vegas, NV

Not that any of you parked out in Vegas are really in watching the tube on a Saturday (right?), but if you've come down with some sort of sickness that's keeping you away from Paradise Road and the vicinity, here's something sure to cheer you up. We've received word that four five new channels have appeared in the Cox EPG in your area, and though they aren't available to watch just yet, it's only a matter of time now. Before long, you should have unbridled access to Animal Planet HD (758), Travel Channel HD (766), Science HD (769) and yes, SciFi HD on slot 745. Not a bad way to start your May, now is it?

[Thanks, John]

Update: ErikR pointed out that these four, along with USA HD (734), are arriving June 1st.
