Mojo Money Night promises more finance-based programming in 2008

Those who felt strangely compelled to watch Wall Street Warriors religiously will be stoked to hear of Mojo's plans for the new year. Apparently, the male-centric channel will be devoting Thursday nights to finance-based offerings, and aside from the return of the aforementioned program, we'll also be treated to two new shows. The block, which will aptly be dubbed Mojo Money Night, will feature Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist -- a show focusing on the life of a capital management investor -- and Junkies, a new series all about "serial entrepreneurs." The action gets going on January 24th of next year, so we'd go on and pencil in a reminder in that perpetually crammed planner of yours.

LG shuts doors on A1 plasma manufacturing plant

While some may have balked at Sony taking an early exit from the PDP market, LG is becoming the fourth major player to reevaluate its investment in plasma after Philips was caught claiming that LCD TVs would likely shape its strategy and Hitachi began to look intently overseas for buyers. Reportedly, LG is closing the doors of its oldest plasma manufacturing plant in Gumi, South Korea as it hopes to "increase operational efficiency and reduce costs." The removal of the A1 plant will drop its plasma capacity from 430,000 to 360,000 panels this year, and it should save the company somewhere between "$22 million and $32 million per year." Notably, LG currently sits in second place in quantity of PDPs shipped worldwide, but considering the perpetual nosedive of HDTV prices over the past year or so, we can't say that Life looks too Good in the PDP arena right now.

Brazil ponders HDTV standards

ISDB
CoolnessWe've frequently fawned over DVB and Japan-only devices, now some of Brazil's top officials are doing the same thing. While Europe, Japan and the U.S. all use different standards for broadcasting high definition television, Brazil has not chosen yet. They will be visiting Korean companies like LG who are pushing the US standard, while Toshiba and Sony work together to promote the Japanese standard, and European companies pushing DVB before they make a decision.

According to the article, they are likely to choose the Japanese standard in return for significant investments to build manufacturing plants in Brazil.
