EQD promises low prices on AURIA HDTV line, won't give specifics

As the HDTV mainstays teeter on failure, drop lines and consider consolidation, newcomer EQD is hoping to exploit the situation by hitting the big guys where they simply can't compete: price. As we've already learned from VIZIO, price is king in the TV world right now, so when a new firm comes out swinging with 720p / 1080p HDTVs at "up to 20 percent less than other TV brands," we pay attention. Furthermore, EQD is slapping a two-year warranty on its entire AURIA line and pledging a portion of each sale towards charity. We're told to expect sets ranging from 16- to 47-inches in size, and each of the models should include an integrated ATSC / NTSC / QAM TV tuner along with HDMI 1.3 inputs. EQD is expected to make its HDTV debut when its first models ship in March or April, though only time will tell exactly how "low" these MSRPs will be.

Sharp fires up 43 LCD tree for the ho-ho-HOPE Program

Sharp LCD tree
New Yorkers passing through Grand Central Terminal will be treated to a 26-foot high holiday bush ensconced in, you guessed it, 43 Sharp LCD panels -- 52-inch behemoths at the base and 19-inch models way at the tip-top. Oohs, ahs and festive lighting aside, the display is meant to raise donations for the HOPE program's "Green Collar Project" that will help students find a green-collar job related to environmental work. Snicker all you want about the heat pumped out by those 52-inch LCDs, but it the tree as a whole beats its plasma counterpart and it's a good cause to boot. Enter to win one of the 43 deciduous panels and $1 will be donated to the program, up to $100,000 (and with a minimum of $50,000). Good on you, Sharp!

Help Engadget Energize Education in the DonorsChoose blogger challenge

We like to have a lot of fun around here, but we also know that there are times to get serious and use our semi-prominent position to rally our readers around a good cause. Or in the case of the 2007 DonorsChoose blogger challenge, 25 good causes. Engadget has partnered with numerous different tech-centric programs around the country to help raise funds for the children that they serve, and with your assistance, we're hoping to collect a total of $25,000 to be distributed among these various organizations. The best part? As its name suggests, DonorsChoose allows you to allocate your donation however you please; so instead of contributing to the general "Engadget fund," you're actually giving directly to one or more programs impacting high-need public schools.

You have until October 31st to make a donation -- either by clicking here or on the Read link below -- and we sincerely hope that you'll consider helping out these projects that really do have a chance to give kids a better future. We'll keep you updated with Team Engadget's progress, and while it would be almost criminal to guarantee every reader a new HDTV if we meet our goals, well...
