Cablevision iO TV adding 30, or 8, new HD channels

Cablevision is back at it again, forcing us out of the weekly update by dropping 30 new HD channels on Bronx and Brooklyn area customers, while all other areas should have 8 new channels to enjoy as of the 24th. Despite being a clearly shameless bid to replace RCN as the official service providers of Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, we can find little wrong with these additions, thanks goes to SatteliteGuys.us for the list of channels.

[Thanks, Jack]

TWC gives New York City a new helping of HD channels

TWC made good on a big promise to update the Big Apple's high-def lineup back in April, and now it's hitting the City up with a second wave that's about half as awesome. Reportedly, the carrier has snuck in over a dozen HD channels to the Northern Manhattan system, while a tipster in Brooklyn found that Crime and Investigation HD, TV One HD, G4HD, CNBC HD, USA HD, SciFi HD , Bravo HD, E! HD and QVC HD were all available as of this weekend. At the rate cable carrier's are adding HD channels this holiday season, don't be surprised to get a NYC-sized bundle yourself. TWC announces HD expansion for Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens

With FiOS HD hittin' hot and heavy in the Big Apple, TWC is making moves to ensure that it stays at least competitive with Verizon. The latest channel update for three of the five NYC boroughs includes updates for Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, with Northern Manhattan getting a special helping. There are far too many additions to cover in this space, so we'll point you to the full notice hosted just after the break. Sorry, south-siders, maybe next time. TWC beefs up HD lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon

Time Warner Cable is stirring the HD pot in the Empire State once more, this time bringing the lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon up to par with those already stocked (Staten Island, we're looking at you). In a new programming announcement on the provider's website, we're told that the "previously announced drop of MOJO (796) on October 1st has been postponed," presumably until sometime in December. Additionally, Brooklyn / Queens will be seeing HBO HD (651), Cinemax HD (658), Showtime HD (666), TMC HD (674), Starz HD (676), Cartoon Network HD (722), FX HD (737) and Speed HD (774) on October 22nd. Including Mount Vernon, all three locales will get Big Ten Network HD (472), CBS College Sports HD (467), ESPNU HD (793) and Tennis Channel HD (465). Stellar news, right? Full shot of the announcement is after the break. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

New York City officially gifted with Verizon's FiOS TV: 100 HD channels

Not quite four months after Time Warner Cable completely and entirely revamped the HD lineup in New York / New Jersey, another big player has entered the Big Apple. NYC residents, meet Verizon. After tons of planning, drawn-out meetings and a bazillion approvals, FiOS TV is now available to order in 108 neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Better still, the carrier is offering 100 high-definition channels in the area, and if all goes to plan, that number will creep upward even more in the not-too-distant future. Jump on past the break for a (long) list of the communities that can order service today. So, the big question: are any of you NYers making the switch?

FiOS approved for New York City, launch expected in "weeks"

The NY Public Service Commission decided to approve Verizon's petition for a Certificate of Confirmation yesterday, removing the final hurdle to FiOS eventually becoming available in all five boroughs. Details from the PSC's release (warning: PDF link) indicate the franchise agreement is for 12 years, and grants Verizon waivers on a few usual requirements intended to give it time to build up service in the city. It could take up to six years to reach fiber to the entire city, and has also been granted 180 extra days to add public, educational and government channels. No word on exactly when New Yorkers expect that all digital, uncompressed competition for their local cable company (Verizon's PR indicates only "in the coming weeks"), but with the last hurdle out of the way it should be sooner rather than later.

TWC bringing Biography HD, Starz Suite to Brooklyn / Queens, NY

It has been a few months since the Brooklyn / Queens areas of New York had any high-def news pointed at 'em, but Time Warner Cable has quietly announced a few newcomers in the midst of shuffling its lineup around. Beginning on July 23rd, HD Theater will be shifting from slot 718 to 767 (so don't freak out), while Biography HD will launch on 763. Furthermore, Starz HD, Starz Comedy HD, Starz Edge HD and Starz Kids & Family HD will get lit on slots 676, 681, 677 and 678, respectively. Time Warner Cable bringing Fox News HD to Brooklyn / Queens, NY

Not satisfied with finding Versus / Golf HD on your EPG a little early? For Time Warner Cable customers located in Brooklyn / Queens, New York, here's another tidbit to appease your insatiable appetite for more high-def. On an updated Channel Changes page for the aforementioned locales, TWC clearly notes that Fox News HD will be headed to those lineups on May 1st in slot 744. Unfortunately, there's no word on when (or if) this newcomer will spread out to other areas, but given the history of TWC not treating all boroughs equally, we wouldn't hold our breath (you hear, Manhattanites?). Time Warner Cable drops HD bombshell on New York / New Jersey

Lookee here, it's all coming true. The bits we heard about a massive HD rollout coming to Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, NY (not to mention New Jersey) are now being confirmed by Time Warner Cable. On April 30th, the three previously highlighted areas will have access to 50 HD channels, while those very stations will be available to all digital subscribers in Manhattan (!!!), New Jersey, the Hudson Valley region and Mt. Vernon "later this year." Additionally, TWC is gearing up to add over 250 HD VOD options, launch Enhanced HDTV (which includes Start Over) and position itself "to carry 100 high-definition channels" in NY and NJ by the close of 2008. Progress is a wonderful thing, innit? Check the full list of upcoming HD channels in the read link. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

TWC's Queens / Brooklyn HD expansion going live on April 30

Time Warner Cable has been toying with the heartstrings of Brooklyn / Queens, New York residents for months now with a succulent lineup of HD additions. Nevertheless, new verbiage from the carrier explains that said newcomers will actually hit the aforementioned boroughs on April 30th (as in, for real this time). Additionally, well-stocked Staten Island will be picking up a few more high-def options on the same day, so click on through to take a look at what to expect in just over a month. FSN New York becoming MSG Plus HD, more HD coming to Staten Island

We're not certain if this change will affect more than a few key areas of New York and New Jersey (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bergen, Mt. Vernon and Hudson Valley to be precise), but Fox Sports Net New York is set to become MSG Plus in mid-March. As expected, FSN NY HD will also become MSG Plus HD, but channel slots on TWC aren't expected to change. Around the same time, YES HD in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island will be relocating from channel 730 to 753, while NY1 HD gets added to the Time Warner Cable lineup in Woodside and Staten Island (only, unfortunately) on slot 701. For subscribers on Staten Island, you can also look forward to seeing Discovery HD (766), Animal Planet HD (786), TLC HD (752) and Science Channel HD (755). Needless to say, Manhattan gets the proverbial shaft yet again, but we'll keep you posted if things change. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

TWC actually expanding HD options in Queens / Brooklyn, NY

After Time Warner Cable apparently pulled a fast one on subscribers in Queens and Brooklyn, NY by advertising its Woodside additions to the rest of the community -- but then not following through -- we've pictorial evidence that those newcomers are indeed making their way around. 'Course, it's a few weeks later than expected, but we suppose it's better than CNN HD, MHD, History Channel HD, A&E HD, Food Network HD, Lifetime Movies HD, HGTV HD, Versus / Golf HD and NHL Network HD not making the rounds. As of now, we're seeing that the channels have indeed been added to the EPG, but there's no video to go along just yet. Still, we're expecting 'em to go live anytime, so hold tight and keep an eye on your set. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

[Thanks, Vin P.]

Update: As of February 29th, the channels have been removed from the EPG in Queens / Brooklyn. The latest word from TWC is "coming soon." Bummer.

TWC expands Woodside HD additions to rest of Queens and Brooklyn, NY

Just weeks after Time Warner Cable beefed up the HD offerings in Woodside (a Queens, NY neighborhood) and Staten Island, the carrier has apparently decided to bless the rest of Queens and Brooklyn with the very same additions. Yep, this now means that you and your Woodside pals can once again be on speaking terms, as you too can finally enjoy the likes of CNN HD, M HD, History Channel HD, A&E HD, Food Network HD, Lifetime Movies HD, HGTV HD, TMC HD, Versus HD and NHL HD. Be sure and drop any extras that may have joined inconspicuously in comments below. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]
