Star Wars: The Clone Wars gets box art, November 11th release date

Let's face it -- whenever a new Star Wars flick comes out, it's a massive deal. Granted, The Clone Wars didn't make nearly as big of a splash as any of the other non-animated versions, but true fanatics will likely be grappling for this one, regardless. We've just learned that said title will be making its Blu-ray debut day-and-date with the DVD release, and as expected, it'll be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Also of note, "The Hologram Memory Challenge" and a "creative conversation" with those instrumental in making the film will appear as BD exclusive bonus features, and a Digital Copy will be included for those who care. Look for this one to crowd shelves on November 11th for $34.99 (MSRP).

Limited edition R2-D2 DVD projector up for pre-order

Remember that R2-D2 projector that's been taunting you for months? Of course, how could you forget? Apparently, these critters are getting set to roll off the assembly line (seen above, if you couldn't piece it together) and into eager hands everywhere. The R2-D2 DVD Projector is up for pre-order right now for a stiff €2,799 ($4,114), and while that's most definitely more than we'd like to pay, it's probably better than waiting for all 4,000 to run out and being forced to pay "market price."

Star Wars HD for Sky on New Years Day

Star Wars in high definitionGreat news for our "other-than-American" customers who turned tridactyl green with envy at the news that Cinemax would be showing Star Wars in high definition. Sky has announced they'll be showing all of the sextology -- say that in mixed company! -- not once but two times on New Years Day on Sky HD, and in standard def as well. The first run will be in plotline order (I - VI) starting at 6am, with the theatrical release schedule (IV V VI I II III) starting after lunch. So grab your Stormtrooper costume, your Yoda slippers, and sit down in front of the telly for an entire day of HD goodness! And let the people without HD satellite be jealous of you for once.

Star Wars HD marathon going on right about...now

Cinemax is bringing home all six Star Wars movies in high definition back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back, starting at midnight tonight. If you miss one don't worry, they will be repeating and also are available in many areas in HD on video-on-demand. Otherwise, this is the first time to catch all three original flicks formatted for your HDTV, if you'd like to avoid Jar-Jar Binks in 1080i, take a nap and catch Episode IV: A New Hope at 7:10 AM on Saturday.

Star Wars HD is coming to Sky

Georgie didn't forgot about all the Star War/high-def nut over in the UK. Sky HD has worked out an arrangement with LucasFilm to allow all six episodes to be shown via the provider. There isn't any announcement of when or where but you know, who cares? All that matters is all of our peeps over the UK, that is with Sky HD, will be able to check out one of the best movie sagas in high definition just like us here in the States. But we are sure you would like to know when the films are coming so you can plan your day around the 15 hours of George Lucas goodness and we will let you know as soon as we find out.

All six Star Wars films coming to Cinemax HD

Star War fans everywhere join hands and rejoice! Cinemax has struck a deal with Lucasfilm to broadcast all six Star War movies in high-def for the very first time come this November. Sure, there have been times in the past when the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith have ran on both HBO and Cinemax in high def, but Lucasfilms have never allowed the original trilogy to be aired in the higher resolution. Plus, this makes the first time all six films will be shown on the same station. The deal apparently allows the station to run a few times throughout the month so if ya got to work for the first time through, there is sure to come a time again in a few days that will allow you to sit back and enjoy 15-hours of Star Wars in HD.

Dare we speculate that maybe this signals George Lucas's bow to everything that is good and just about high definition?

Last minute holiday shopping?

There's always DVD's, CD's and videogames. So what might you pick up today that would look great on the screen of the HDTV owner in your life? I've got a few ideas.

DVD's -

  • The Island - I know I know, nobody went to see it at the theaters, let me tell you, I think they made a mistake. It was a great summer action flick and will make for a great winter action flick to watch inside while it snows. The sets and the special effects had me thinking this may be my first Blu-ray/HD-DVD purchase when I originally saw it in the theater, since neither of them made it this year I'll have to settle for regular DVD quality upconverted. Oh yeah, and Scarlett Johansen? Incredibly easy on the eyes.
