Considering that St. Louis, Missouri was one of the first locales to receive 2 HD / 2 SD from AT&T, we suppose it's no real shock to hear that some residents of that city are already sucking down the update. Announced earlier this month for the Bay Area, AT&T is apparently rolling its Total Home DVR software out to at least two more major metros: St. Louis and Dallas / Fort Worth. The carrier told us that the rest of its markets would get blessed soon, but we'll admit, we didn't figure "soon" to mean "next week." Any others out there getting notification of the update on their set-top-box?

Stop the presses: AT&T has just yanked a huge hurdle out of U-verse's way, and if St. Louis' luck is passed on throughout the country, its fiber-based HD service just got a whole lot more attractive. To be honest, many have scoffed at AT&T's U-verse service due to the inability to watch one high-def channel while recording another (even though you could record an SD channel while watching an HD telecast), but now a swarm of St. Louis, Missouri based customers are joining in celebration as 2HD / 2SD service has been activated. In short, this enables four total streams to be accessed at once, but unlike the previous 1HD / 3SD setup, users can now get their fingers on dual high-definition broadcasts. Unfortunately, we've heard nothing official about this rolling out elsewhere, but we can't imagine AT&T only letting STL have all the fun here.

Good news St. Louis, Charter's throwing eight more high definition channels on top of the three it added back in January, but unfortunately the press release completely neglected to mention which eight. Judging by a post from PWSHER at AVS Forum based on a mailer that came yesterday and confirmed by St. Louis Business Journal, we're pretty sure that AMC HD, CNN HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD, Science HD, Smithsonian Channel HD, The Movie Channel HD and TBS HD should be filling out your lineup sometime soon. Just over a month after AT&T wired St. Louis, Missouri up with U-verse access, Charter Communications is (softly) hitting back by introducing three new high-definition options to the local lineup. Reportedly, Discovery Channel HD, The Weather Channel HD and Versus / Golf Channel HD will be available for viewing as of January 30th, but our tipster notes that CBS is still unavailable in HD. Can't win 'em all, right?

Apparently, love isn't the only game that requires a bit of give and take, as just months after Charter blessed its St. Louis, Missouri customers with two new sparkling HD channels (TNT-HD and MHD), the firm is now about to remove one. Charter Communications has reportedly hit a wall in discussions with Belo. Corp. (which owns KMOV) in regard to the fees that the station wishes to collect from Charter. Although Charter hasn't had any issues receiving permission from other locals to broadcast their HD signals, KMOV is playing hardball, suggesting that Charter pay up to compensate for the "value gained" by having the HD flavor of their station available to users. Of course, the cable company complains that charging for signals that can be received over the air gratis is absurd, and neither party seems to be budging just yet. St. Louis Charter subscribers could lose the signal "as early as tomorrow" unless any band-aids get applied today, but either way, you'll soon be receiving a letter in the mail explaining why there's a sudden black hole where KMOV used to be if things aren't permanently resolved.
