Singulus CEO predicts Blu-ray machine delivery peak in 5 to 6 years

Sony's Rick Clancy spared no mercy when bashing claims that Blu-ray would be old hat within five years, but now we're seeing yet another bigwig predict a similar fate. Singulus, a German company responsible for pumping out Blu-ray duplicators and the like, has recently spoken up via its CEO to suggest that Blu-ray will peak (in terms of delivery of Blu-ray machines) within five to six years. Additionally, CEO Stefan Baustert suggested that the BD market will grow somewhat in 2009, and he boldly predicted that 50% of US households will own a Blu-ray player within two years; of note, he said the same level of penetration wouldn't occur in Germany before 2011 or 2012. Oh sure, it's not like this guy's a clairvoyant or anything, but we'd suspect he knows his business pretty well.

Singulus Blu-ray duplicator sales beat predictions

Singulus has announced that even its "significantly" raised sales projections for Blu-ray duplication machines may have been to low, after exceeding its own sales forecast for the first half of the year, while predicting more orders coming soon. The manufacturer is aiming to take over 65 percent of the market, and already sold 31 production lines this year. Nearly three years after launch that number doesn't seem incredibly high, but if Singulus is happy, who are we to stand in the way?

Singulus sees Blu-ray being adopted quicker than DVD

Here's the background: Singulus Technologies manufactures machines for optical disc production. It's not a research firm, and it's hardly in a position to assert that Blu-ray adoption overall is occurring at a faster rate than DVD was in its infancy. That being said, a recent release from the outfit is still worth eying, as its CEO points out that "orders for Blu-ray in the first year of the dual-layer technology already by far exceeded the volume at the start of the DVD eleven years ago." Granted, this simply means that Singulus is picking up orders for its BD machines quicker than it secured 'em for DVD machines -- heck, maybe the sales team is just more adept nowadays. Either way, it's an interesting piece that sheds a smidgen of light onto the adoption debate, but it's a far cry from being a total industry perspective.

German disc-replicator Singulus' prospects rise with Blu-ray

German disc-replicator Singulus is busy fitting the company truck for dub-deuces on rumors of HD DVD's impending demise, seeing sales expectations "significantly" as the world has a more Blu tinge to it. Much like Toshiba, the stock market responded quickly, although Singulus been ahead of the game, prepped for both formats from the beginning, and then buying out competitor OC Oerlikon's Blu-ray equipment recently. It could be a while before Singulus' logo flashes out from wheelwells worldwide, as that improvement might not reflect on the company's books until 2009.
