Verizon was on a rampage last week when it came to FiOS TV expansions, and we're delighted to say that this week isn't too much different. For starters, we see that the latest wave of interactive features have swept across North Texas and New Jersey, while councils in Pomona, Lindenhurst, Hewlett Bay Park and Yorktown, New York approved video franchises to get Verizon's fiber-based programming service up and running in the near future. Finally, we see a single town in Washington (Kirkland) and two locales in the Bay State (Hudson and Weston) get word of impending FiOS TV service. Verizon's making up for lost time this week. Last Saturday, we realized it had gone the entire week without stretching its FiOS TV footprint any further, but the same can't be said today. In addition to bringing its fiber-based services to apartment buildings in Yonkers, NY, the outfit has either gone live with or nailed down cable franchises in a smattering of new locales. For starters, FiOS TV is now available to even more communities in Los Angeles and Orange County (CA), while the villages of Cove Neck and Brightwaters on Long Island (NY) granted the provider the all-important franchise agreement. Expansion efforts were also seen in six new New Jersey cities; Hudson, Massachusetts; Bel Air, Maryland; and Chesapeake / Portsmouth / Virginia Beach, Virginia. Time Warner Cable is stirring the HD pot in the Empire State once more, this time bringing the lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon up to par with those already stocked (Staten Island, we're looking at you). In a new programming announcement on the provider's website, we're told that the "previously announced drop of MOJO (796) on October 1st has been postponed," presumably until sometime in December. Additionally, Brooklyn / Queens will be seeing HBO HD (651), Cinemax HD (658), Showtime HD (666), TMC HD (674), Starz HD (676), Cartoon Network HD (722), FX HD (737) and Speed HD (774) on October 22nd. Including Mount Vernon, all three locales will get Big Ten Network HD (472), CBS College Sports HD (467), ESPNU HD (793) and Tennis Channel HD (465). Stellar news, right? Maybe you haven't noticed, but Verizon has been throwing FiOS TV to Washington cities on a really regular basis. This week, we see Woodway awarding the carrier with a video franchise, while nine more New Jersey cities -- including parts of Salem County, the city of Camden and the city of Paterson -- get the luxury of ordering. Finally, we've got much of Stafford County, Virginia expecting to receive the fiber-based programming service in the future, though Verizon only promises that rollouts will begin "later this summer," with the rest of the place having to wait anywhere between a few months and a few years to get covered. For the second week in a row now, we've got quite a few locales getting blanketed (or at least getting set for coverage) by FiOS TV. Verizon has announced that its fiber-based television / high-speed internet services are now available in Covina, West Covina and Sepulveda, California. Furthermore, Washington state is getting even more FiOS TV love by awarding the carrier a video franchise in Woodinville. Not quite four months after Time Warner Cable completely and entirely revamped the HD lineup in New York / New Jersey, another big player has entered the Big Apple. NYC residents, meet Verizon. After tons of planning, drawn-out meetings and a bazillion approvals, FiOS TV is now available to order in 108 neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Better still, the carrier is offering 100 high-definition channels in the area, and if all goes to plan, that number will creep upward even more in the not-too-distant future. Something actually launching on the very day it was supposed to? Say it ain't so! According to the New York Post, Time Warner Cable actually is rolling out its Start Over feature -- which gives users a chance to "restart a show they may have missed from the beginning with the press of a button" -- in areas of New York / New Jersey on July 1st. Reportedly, it'll hit HD subscribers first in Staten Island, with other systems to follow shortly. It should be noted, however, that the feature will only be offered "up to one minute before the program is over, and as part of an agreement between Time Warner and broadcasters, unlike a DVR, viewers cannot fast forward through commercials." Yep, Comcast has added in three new HD nets along the New Jersey shore, and we're giving you exactly one guess as to which three we're talking about. ABC Family HD (195), Disney HD (239) and Science HD (194) were just added in Ocean and Monmouth counties (you did get that correct, right?), and we have a sneaking suspicion they'll be reaching other systems very, very shortly. Where will they end up next? Stay tuned, it's sure to be a thriller.

Hard to curb your enthusiasm, isn't it? For Time Warner Cable customers situated in New York / New Jersey, tomorrow's the big day. Er, maybe today is the big day. According to a Brooklyn resident who just so happened to see what his EyeTV could capture via Clear QAM tonight, NY1 HD (along with a host of others) were spotted as being available. Barely three months after Verizon spread the FiOS TV love to more of the Garden State, the carrier has just announced that even more folks in New Jersey can sign up and grab hold of its fiber-based TV service. The news comes hot on the heels of Comcast's recent HD onslaught in both North and South Jersey, and while a specific number of households isn't mentioned, we are told that parts of Mount Holly, Westampton, Helmetta, Jamesburg, Spotswood and Pallisades Park now have access. It's good to have choices, isn't it?

Despite our disbelief, the Comcast HD train is still on a roll, this time making its way up to South Jersey. While other locales have been grinning ear-to-ear after getting just a handful of newcomers, folks in the lower part of New Jersey can get set to receive ten fresh ones -- on a Saturday, no less. Effective April 12th, customers in the area can find HGTV HD, Discovery HD, TLC HD, Food Network HD, History HD, Sci-Fi HD, CNN HD, Animal Planet HD, USA HD and AMC HD on their EPG. Also of note, AMC, TCM, History Channel, Cartoon Network and Inspiration will be moving to digital, and "up to 50 channels" could be repositioned in the shuffle. It's time to let go of all that pent-up envy felt for your northerly neighbors, alright?

Lookee here, it's all coming true. The bits we heard about a massive HD rollout coming to Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, NY (not to mention New Jersey) are now being confirmed by Time Warner Cable. On April 30th, the three previously highlighted areas will have access to 50 HD channels, while those very stations will be available to all digital subscribers in Manhattan (!!!), New Jersey, the Hudson Valley region and Mt. Vernon "later this year." Additionally, TWC is gearing up to add over 250 HD VOD options, launch Enhanced HDTV (which includes Start Over) and position itself "to carry 100 high-definition channels" in NY and NJ by the close of 2008. Verizon already services quite a chunk of New Jersey, but in a recent writeup explaining how cabling was currently being laid to bring FiOS TV to more of southern NJ (Cumberland county, in particular), we noticed that Vineland and Bridgeton weren't the only nearby regions with fiber in their future. According to Dennis Bone, president of Verizon New Jersey, FiOS should also be rolled out in "Atlantic and Cape May counties, beginning in Middle Township, by 2009." If all goes well, the company hopes to have around 300 communities across the state with access to at least FiOS internet, if not FiOS TV, by the end of 2008. Still, one has to wonder when the service will start moving out from the same ole footprint.

In what has clearly become a breakthrough year for baseball in HD, North Jersey based Mets and Jets fans can rejoice as Comcast is adding SportsNet New York HD just as we expected. Coming to channel 198 for Union, Plainfield, Meadowlands, Jersey City and Northwest-based customers today, and in other markets Thursday, viewers will get every 2008 Mets game in high definition. Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, RCN, DISH Network and DirecTV customers who already had the channel are now encouraged to find other things to fuel their air of superiority, we recommend noting your remarkably luxurious hair, your kid's middle school honor student status, or an above average number of Facebook friends.
