Comcast adds 11 HD nets in Morgan County, Indiana

Comcast subscribers in Martinsville and Mooresville, Indiana have a lot to cheer about this weekend, as they were just recently blessed with eleven new high-definition stations. The newcomers include Animal Planet HD (934), Discovery HD (936), SciFi HD (933), USA HD (939), History HD (941), TLC HD (944), SPEED HD (946), FX HD (948), FOX News HD (950), Cinemax HD (955) and Science HD (957). Users in the area can also expect on-demand programming to hit in 2009, and if this sudden trend continues, we'd expect a number of other Comcast systems to see new HD channels very, very shortly.

Comcast fires back two HD channels of its own in Indianapolis

Call it coincidence, but Comcast has just pushed out two new high-definition channels in Indianapolis, Indiana merely days after Bright House Networks delivered four. As of now, both FOX News HD and FX HD are live for viewing, and only heaven knows if any others are on the way. Be sure and let us know if additional ones come along, though.

[Thanks, Natrino]

Indianapolis, Indiana gets four HD channels courtesy of BHN

Indianapolis! How's it? If you call yourself a Bright House Networks customer, it's about to get a lot better. According to a local who was surfing aimlessly in the EPG today, USA HD (739), Travel HD (748), SciFi HD (768) and FX HD (771) are all available, and we'd wager that's no accident. Flip 'er on and enjoy your new material, Indy.

Verizon's FiOS TV expansions: December 13, 2008

Talk about a deflating week for Verizon. Not only did the one FiOS TV expansion notice come in the form of a release stating that Fort Wayne, Indiana customers now had access to 101 high-definition channels, but the practically locked-up Philadelphia deal was delayed for at least a month thanks to a few meddling Comcast lobbyists. Here's hoping for a brighter report next Saturday (or possibly Friday, if we're talking Hawaiian time).

Comcast readies DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts for Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore and Ft. Wayne

Comcast promised us all a few months back that it would be bringing its wicked fast DOCSIS 3.0 technology to a handful of other big markets before too long, and today the carrier has chosen to reveal the next four places where said service will be made available. The high-speed internet service, which is capable of hitting 50Mbps down / 5Mbps up, will be launched "over the next several weeks" in Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Don't see your city listed? Hang tight -- the next wave should be announced in the not-too-distant future.

Comcast plans a trio for Northern Indiana / Southwest Michigan

While your pals would likely look at you funny if you told them this news after exclaiming "we're expecting!," we totally understand. Reportedly, Comcast is fixing to drop FOX News HD (265), FX HD (267) and SPEED HD (237) on its Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan markets on December 16th. If that combination sounds familiar, it's because it is -- Reston, VA and Pittsburgh, PA have also received the same trifecta. Go on, let all your geeky joy our in comments below.

[Thanks, Grant]

BHN drops Fort Wayne NBC / ABC affiliates in Grant County, promises more HD

We certainly hope you Grant County residents in Indiana enjoy the Indianapolis anchors, because after this year, that's all you'll be seeing from Bright House Networks. Currently, this sector of the world is in a rare scenario, as its local cable carrier offers locals from both Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. Sadly, the Fort Wayne NBC (WISE-TV) / ABC (WPTA-TV) affiliates will be done away with after December 31st, and BHN's president of Indiana operations says the decision was based on how skewed the ratings were in the direction of Indy's locals. Not all is doom and gloom, however, as the MLB Network will join HD versions of The Weather Channel, Travel Channel, USA, FX and SciFi in the Grant County EPG next month. Six steps forward, two steps back? Deal.

Verizon gears up for FiOS rollout in 27,000 Aimco apartments

It's incredibly obvious that one of Verizon's main opportunities for growth in FiOS TV is locking down contracts with housing facilities and apartment complexes, and while we've seen some small to medium-scale rollouts before, this one takes things to a whole 'nother level. Last year, the provider inked a deal with Aimco that would eventually bring fiber-based FiOS services to residents of some 27,000 apartments in 11 states across the nation. Now, 100 Aimco properties from coast to coast will be lit up with FiOS TV / internet / digital voice services prior to the onset of 2009, and that should make for quite a few happy tenants this holiday season.

Cable One / Hoak Media strike retrans deal, get ABC and NBC back on the air

For Cable One users up in Fargo, North Dakota, you've been dealing without two of your badly-needed locals in high-def for some time now. Thankfully, the torture has come to an end, as both the cable carrier and Hoak Media Corporation have come to terms on a retransmission deal. The exact outlay wasn't disclosed, but Scott Geston, general manager for Cable One, was quoted as saying that it was "beneficial to both parties." At any rate, you folks now have your ABC and NBC back, so you should probably take the opportunity to resume your life as usual.

South Bend, Indiana gets HD news from WSBT-TV

South Bend, Indiana got more than a win from their Fighting Irish this weekend -- they also got a heavy dose of HD news. WSBT-TV, the area's CBS affiliate, became the first in the region to air its newscasts digitally just days ago, and moreover, the first to broadcast in high-definition. Viewers are being treated to clearer views of their favorite anchors and more information on a wider screen platform, including additional weather data on the margins of their TV screens. The station's news director Meg Sauer has also asked for forgiveness if any glitches crop up due to all the new equipment, but we're sure you'll be willing to do so in exchange for an HD quality broadcast.

DirecTV now carrying HD locals in 100 markets

While DISH Network just recently hit market number 70, DirecTV is throwing itself a party after reaching the big 100. With the addition of Columbia-Jefferson City, Missouri and Evansville, Indiana, the satcaster can now claim to have HD locals available in a hundred US regions. The milestone means that some 83% of the US can now get DirecTV and their HD locals sans an OTA antenna, and if all goes to plan, it'll hit 121 cities by the year's end. We suppose a round of golf claps is in order.

Comcast adds TBS HD in West Lafayette, IN

We can only hope that this has happened in more locales than one, but at least in West Lafayette, Indiana, Comcast has flipped on TBS HD just in time for the MLB playoffs to get going. For those of you there in Purdue-land, it's on slot 926. For everyone else, be sure and let us know if your carrier has also green lit the station in time for baseball's most riveting month.

[Thanks, Jason]

Six more markets get HD locals on DirecTV

Can't say it still feels like summer in some parts of the US, but regardless of semantics, DirecTV is forging ahead with its HD locals rollout. Effective immediately, a half dozen more markets can find at least a couple of the big broadcast stations in HD, with Mobile, Richmond, South Bend, Syracuse, Toledo and Youngstown all getting gifted. For details on which DMA got which stations, head on down to the read link.

[Thanks, VANBROTHERS]

AT&T's U-verse saunters down to Jacksonville, FL and South Bend, IL

While Verizon announced that its FiOS TV service would soon be making its way into a number of new locales this past week, AT&T took the liberty of giving residents in Jacksonville, Florida and South Bend, Indiana another choice for television programming. For folks in one of the two aforesaid cities that are fed up with Comcast's less-than-consumer-friendly tactics, they can now turn their eyes to AT&T's fiber-based basket of services for TV, high-speed internet and digital phone. If your community isn't covered just yet, keep on calling -- the carrier has asserted that it'll make U-verse available to more parts of both cities on an ongoing basis.
