Columbus posts
We'd known that Time Warner Cable was planning something special for the heart of Ohio, and now it's official. The carrier itself has proclaimed that seven new high-def options have arrived in "legacy areas" of Mid-Ohio, which pushes the grand total in the area to 58. As of now, viewers in these regions can find CNBC HD (717), ESPNU HD (723), Bravo HD (744), SPEED HD (756), Toon Disney HD (771), SciFi HD (773) and Adult HD (401) in the program guide. In related news, WTTE HD will be relocating to slot 708, WOSU HD will head to slot 707 and WWHO HD will move to channel 713. Happy surfing!
TWC lines up eight more HD channels in Columbus, Ohio
Columbus-area TWC subscribers were just blessed with sixteen new high-def channels over the past little bit, and according to a new report from The Columbus Dispatch, these same folks will see eight more in January. There's no mention of what exactly those channels will be, but we are told that the Start Over service has been expanded to eight areas in Central Ohio and should be available to all at the beginning of next year. Oh, and while this is completely unofficial, we'd say you can probably send a thank you letter to AT&T for applying pressure where it counts. Yeah, we said it -- survived. Columbus is one of the toughest markets to be a pay-TV provider in, as you've got competitors coming from pretty much every angle. That said, AT&T has managed to grow its U-verse TV business in the Ohio city over the past year, as it is now available to over 50 communities in the area. Interestingly, the operator doesn't take the time to brag about exactly how many consumers it has here, but we're betting it's a bit less than most regions simply due to the plethora of other options. At any rate, here's your birthday card AT&T, and no, there's no money tucked away after the break.
TWC plans new HD additions for Columbus, Ohio
Not that Columbus, Ohio is really lacking in the HD department, but given the intense competition for your pay-TV dollars there, it's no surprise to see Time Warner Cable planning another wave of additions. On or after December 28th, customers in the region will find Adult HD On Demand, CNBC HD, ESPNews HD, ESPNU HD, Bravo HD, Speed HD, Golf HD, USA HD, MLB Network HD, Toon Disney HD and SciFi HD. The carrier is also throwing in PBS Sprout and MLB Network on the SD side, and it's moving around a bunch of existing channels to new slots. For all the dirt, tap the read link.[Thanks, ESavage]

TWC adds Food / Disney / Animal Planet HD in Columbus, OH
Time Warner Cable has been beefing up its HD lineup in Columbus, Ohio slowly but surely, and yet again, residents are being spoon-fed another trio as they await a fantasmical high-def explosion (that may or may not ever come, sadly). At any rate, Food Network HD, Disney HD and Animal Planet HD were all lit up in the EPG this week, giving locals three more ways to split their HD viewing hours. Invigorating, no?[Thanks, Nick]

Wide Open West adds an HD trifecta
Man, it has been awhile since Wide Open West subscribers saw a new HD channel hit their EPG. Thankfully, it looks like the drought is over, with FX HD, History HD and FOX News HD coming to Chicago, Columbus, Evansville and Michigan. No word on whether any others are on the way, but let's celebrate this small victory before begging for more, shall we?[Thanks, David]
Columbus, Georgia's WLTZ debuts HD newscasts
After hopping back in the local news game in November 2007 after a 14 year absence, WLTZ is out to show it means business. The Columbus, Georgia NBC affiliate has just announced that it will be delivering its local HD newscasts in high-definition from here on out, and according to Drew Rhodes, WLTZ general manager, the move "lends [the station] a lot of marketing credibility." In the Peach State, the only other broadcast networks with HD news are located in Atlanta, making this the first in the Chattahoochee Valley. Three HD news stations in all of Georgia -- what's up with that?Time Warner Cable adding four HD channels in Columbus, Ohio
Just over a month after Clevelanders were told of four new HD channels that are coincidentally launching on Time Warner Cable today, the folks down in Buckeye country now have four of their own to look forward to. Yep, Columbus-area residents can get prepared for the addition of Sports Time Ohio HD (Ch. 752; presumably the full-time edition), National Geographic HD (Ch. 761), A&E HD (Ch. 766) and HGTV HD (Ch. 768). According to a notice on the carrier's website, these four newcomers are slated to hit sometime this month, but word from Columbus says that TWC has already been airing an ad boasting that A&E HD would arrive on the 18th. Hotels being upgraded / converted en masse, HDTVs included
Those used to seeing an AmeriSuites hotel in the Crosswoods area of Columbus, Ohio may be wondering where it went. Reportedly, the hotel has been converted into a Hyatt Place in an attempt to "to reach a younger audience," and it's far from being the only one. Hyatt Corp. has been on somewhat of an upgrading rampage as it converts and upgrades a number of hotels to cater to the demanding traveler, spending around "$32,000 per room on Hyatt Place conversions." That cash is purportedly being used in order to add such niceties as wireless internet, large sofa sleepers, wet bars and most importantly, 42-inch flat-panel TVs with 11 channels of high-definition programming. Talk about home away from home.
