May 2nd 2008 12:01PM I was planning on getting a BD-5000UP last week. I was going to return my $98 HD-A2 from WalMart and use that cash toward the $449 Samsung hybrid player at Amazon. But alas, I missed the 4/30 cutoff for the refund.
Otherwise I agree - I paid $295 for my BD-1400 last December & can't find it right now anywhere below $399. Yeah - it's clear who won the format war. Hint, it's not the consumer.

Apr 29th 2008 10:05AM That looks like an interesting setup and upgrade path. The only thing I really question is the amplifier power. 30W/channel is pretty skimpy. I would worry less if that was a Harman/Kardon power rating that low.

Apr 28th 2008 9:40AM I'll be replacing my 3 year old 720p projector with a new 1080p model. Probably a Epson 1080UB for $2600.
My 50" plasma in the den should serve me nicely for many years before I want to upgrade it. I can justify 1080p in the theater room based on distance to screen (12' back from a 112" screen, or about 1.5 screen widths). Plus the fact that my only Blu-Ray player is connected to that system.

I bought an A2 on the pre-BF sale day for $98, but I'm not sure I want to return it. I have about 25 HD-DVDs, but I still have my 360 add-on. $98 towards another BR player would be nice.
Tough call.
Samsung BD-P1400 review {Engadget HD}
Feb 28th 2008 1:29PM I've been very pleased with my -1400 so far. I love being able to use the analog inputs on my 8 year-old Sony ES receiver and get Dolby TrueHD. Plus I paid less than $300 for it. Good to see I'm not alone with my impressions.
