Apr 15th 2009 8:54AM It wasn't a single posting, but a whole day...whatever the most recent Friday the 13th was where you guys embedded Jason in just about every product photo that day...the postings were all especially full of sarcasm that day (moreso than usual, which is quite a feat in and of itself!), that sarcasm being one of the main reasons I have this site as my homepage, that and all the hot Asian chicks, of course.

Windows 7 install roundup {Engadget}

Jan 21st 2009 1:03PM 1st-Gen Dell XPS Notebook (~3.5 years old)
Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz proc
128 MB ATI Radeon Mobility graphics card
2 gigs of RAM
Slow as you know what 60 GB harddrive
Coming from Windows XP SP3

Did a clean install from DVD...completed in about 30 minutes, recognized all of my hardware immediately. Had only two issues:

- Couldn't install my older Dell AIO 922 multi-function printer drivers just by plugging in printer to USB on the laptop, had to download Vista drivers from Dell's site and install the drivers manually in order for it to work properly.
- Cisco VPN client does NOT work via normal install of client software...found a solution which worked and required quite a bit of uncomfortable file trickery to get it to work, which is does now perfectly and my remote desktop into my office XP Professional machine is seamless. Initially, plain vanilla install of latest (Cisco VPN Client 5.0.04.0300) was causing BSoD and required a system restore to right before the installation of the client. Now that being said, the Windows 7 handling of this failure, system restore and the subsequent rollback were amazingly graceful, easy to use and QUICK as anything. Anyone having the same issue regarding the VPN client can find the solution here:

There is a comments section to this page at the link above and the 5th comment by JoshP is the one that I used and it worked perfectly, although coming from XP I had to figure out what the hell 'taking ownership' of a file meant, which thanks to google was simple enough to figure out but still kind of an annoying feature. I'm an admin, I should be able to do whatever I want, but whatever.

They've got a real winner with this one. I love the task bar functionality, the load time and speed is TREMENDOUS in comparison to XP and this computer is OLLLLLDD. I'm having a blast using it. I DO wish I had a better graphics card to try out some gaming and Windows 7 rated my harddrive very low, which is a dinosaur given the overall age of the PC, but honestly, I'm really digging it. Sign me up for the retail version when I finally get around to building my next PC.

What's the deal with so many people on MacBooks installing this? Is that weird or is it just me?

Aug 20th 2008 10:23AM Can someone please provide the phonetic pronunciation of this company? It can't really be fucky-teck, can it? Then again my friend did one of those year-long programs in Thailand to teach english as a second language and her mentor while there had a last name of Tittiporn...so I guess anything's possible. Yikes.
