Jul 17th 2008 3:16PM Doing this in 6k would be more noticable and wise if the original negative would have been 70mm, Todd-AO, Imax or the likes, but this is from a 35mm negative. Where's their brains? I'm sure it would be worth the 6K treatment otherwise.

Sep 9th 2006 11:17AM Not really, if it's a lousy show, story or acting (that takes care of most TV, I guess) we'll still watch it. Even on older shows like Gilligan's Island, on standard DVD, we now see cigarette butts all over the island sand (and where would they get cigarettes if.... oh never mind!) You can see a highway up over the lagune with cars, and an electric tower on the island on some outside scenes. Even smoke coming from behind the camera, or now you can see clearly Mary Ann has a moustache! Since nothing else seems to stop people from watching 'Gilligan', "out-of-place" objects in the background (or foreground) won't for other shows either.
ATI, nVIDIA graphics cards trump dedicated DVD players {Engadget}
Sep 3rd 2006 9:26AM I have an Oppo DVD player and an ATI PC and it's no comparision, the PC is much better viewed off a TV or our Canon SX50 projector. The Oppo has jagged step-like diaginal lines where the PC has smooth lines down to the pixel. Our projector image is 12 feet from left to right so it's easier to see the smallest of details. The PC also generates better color, and gives you many options dedicated DVD Players doesn't. We also needed up-dates and tons of tweeking on the Oppo, more than we really did even on our PC! I have no reason to be partial since I have them both, and facts are facts, a PC easily can make a better DVD player!

Aug 5th 2006 6:40AM I go to Circuit City once in a while on my lunch break. The SXRD sure does put to shame EVERY other HDTV they have there. Does anybody actually have any idea what these things weight(in pounds or tons, no metric, please)? How many people (of any race) does it take to move one?

Maybe you better check your (upconversion?)DVD Player or projector settings. Our screen is 12' or 144 inches and we get a beautiful picture from standard DVDs. Many people ask if we are playing the new HD-DVDs.
Another reason HD-DVD or Blu-Ray are a waiste!

Way too much junk on TV and with our in home theatre we watch what we want, when we want.

On my 12' screen, it's as good as a theater. Think of all the money every ones saves watching the movie at a HT. So it costs money up front. Wouldn't you spend money on a decent TV and sound system anyway?
Ultimately, it is not more costly! Not at all!

How do you know? But going along with that false assumtion; many people are happy with SDTV. It's only a small minority that are 'finicky' with HDTV. Many are getting HDTV becuase they are stuck, knowing their present TVs won't be any good before long, not because of preference.
