Jul 5th 2008 12:45PM no matter how many announcements i see. Verizon continues to be aweful, No Los Angeles expansion.

how Verizon continues to underserve LA is horrible. I really do not understand why area including Beverly Hills, Bel Air and more don't get Fios.

Verizon's FiOS TV expansions: June 28, 2008 {Engadget HD}

cmon verizon, bring it to Bel Air and Beverly Hills!!!!

No other movie studios signed with Sony's PlayStation download service yet {Engadget HD}

Jun 28th 2008 12:02PM with ps3, whats the point of relaxing drm?
why even relax? there aint any point to that.

if i can get it to work on my ps3, no problem. if i can transfer to psp, with a big fat memory card. even better.

so... nice, but it would be great if they signed up more content than just sony pictures stuff.

it's kinda funny, all the people that want to do away with DRM, to justify their sharing/stealing via p2p.

I just want DRM to work well, ie play on my devices and be able to enjoy them without authorization problems. ie if i am travelling, and have content on my laptop or p2p, not need internet to watch it.

Los Angeles to sue Time Warner Cable over shoddy service {Engadget HD}

Jun 6th 2008 11:07AM I am a TWC LA Roadrunner client who can testify to the mixed results they really show consumers.

One day we lost our Cable/Internet, and I reported it, but they wouldn't send a crew to check until they hit a certain # of reports. Essentially they made a problem which could have been fixed sooner into a major outage for 1 1/2 days.

TWC can do alot better than they have been offering for LA. Hell LA is a major city, yet TWC offers tier 3 service.

Yes they bought Adelphia systems, but that doesn't mean they ought to be satisfied with low quality.

TWC needs to do better. In NYC they are alot better than LA, and it shows!!

Seagate reveals Showcase external HDD: for media centers and DVRs {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 12:54PM i just hope these devices will work on the Directv HR20, hr21 series esata receivers .

Ask Engadget HD: Is switching from cable to satellite worth it? {Engadget HD}

May 7th 2008 12:47PM getting directv is worth it, but they are gouging customers with HDTV content surcharges.

Directv ain't cheap and they are definitely pulling as much money as possible from their hdtv customers. I am not a fan of this and genuinely hope for a day with more competition to directv.

getting directv hdtv costs about 15-22% more than non-hdtv similar programming.

my hope is that as we pass the analog tv shutoff, hdtv premium goes away

Who in their right mind would buy a Blu-ray player right now? {Engadget HD}

May 2nd 2008 11:58AM Honestly, the reports of people not buying blu-ray consoles are greatly overrated.

Consoles are sold out all around the place, manufacturers were caught off guard by the HD DVD withdrawl, then they were also introducing new models for this summer, so they didn't have enough present production to match the increased demand. and the US Dollar went down, so prices didnt stay as low as christmas sales.

Personally, most of the time i couldn't care less about internet or a few other profile 2.0 BD standard features.

best thing is to watch the movie. also, most people know the best 2.0 player is PS3. which is future proof! so if you want this right now. get the ps3.

for second players, the 1.1 or 1.0 consoles are just fine.

Universal's Blu-ray audio plans revealed, DTS-HD Master Audio included {Engadget HD}

May 1st 2008 9:44AM I welcome the DTS HD choice. This is only going to be good for the longterm.

I understand why some in the minority would be unhappy if their early stage player cannot output that format, but it does offer Dolby Digital, so you are covered.
More importantly, they chose quality, and to be honest, the vast majority of Blu-Ray consumers will be playing these discs on PS3's which is very DTS HD compatible.

Which the nice thing for PS3 owners is that it decodes DTS HD in the PS3, then outputs it as uncompressed PCM. so no matter what receiver / pre-amp you have, you get the DTS HD quality.

Boston Acoustics gets efficient, cuts 30 employees {Engadget HD}

Apr 24th 2008 11:41AM Honestly, I think companies continuing cutbacks when they are profitable is sickening. People need jobs and by killing off them, it will damage the longterm good of the company and economy

Little fish, meet big fish -- Warner laying off most of New Line staff {Engadget HD}

Apr 16th 2008 12:37PM This is a sad end to an era! Time Warner ought to have just forced them to use Warners Distribution and Home Video, but kept the core of New Line together.

Sad to see such a fantastic company being reduced to rubble and made an "imprint" with a tiny staff
