PSP hardware sales rise, software sales stagnate {Joystiq Playstation}

May 14th 2008 4:12PM I used to hack my psp...my original 1.0 japanese black psp. Enjoying Homebrew, but i will not play tricky...the main reason was "not paying games".
I leave in Thailand, and those habits are normal, specialy when at the release of the console, the game were about 55 $...
But then i bought my first slim...i felt like WOW this version is pure coolness, and did not want to hack it or anything like this. Returning to france, i found some dirt cheap umd video ( 2 euros ) bought a ton, saw the promotions in shops, the old releases...etc... bought tons of games.

little by little, i put up a list of classic good games, and new release i had to have...and my collection is now composed of :
- 35 games
- 27 movies
- 6 ps1 games
- 4 PSN games
- and even the digital comic book ( not so great but it is for the support )

I am even shocked to see the pile of UMD boxes. The biggest collection of original all machine together ( i have 15 consoles, and about 300 games )

I feel so stupid now to see that from all my consoles, the psp was the one i pirated the most, but somehow loved the most. So now i am disgusted by my past attitude, and all people doing so, NO EXCUSES. And for all the emu freaks, except the snes games, all the compilations available on psp are gems, and worth a million emulators...so no excuses.

PSP development are in stall, and will not go further because the situation is getting worst and worst in the states, and specialy in europe. Games are pirated, then sale poorly, the the retails do not order games, then sony dont bother releasing, then dev dont bother doing games...and its the end.

See how many things are relesed in japan, and will never cross the ocean ??? it is a sign no ?

And for the lame bastards that tell the psp has no good games, or games worth playing i will type an eclectic and AAA list of games for the console:

- Tales of eternia
- pq 1 & 2
- Exit 1 & 2
- Sega genesis collection
- Popolocrois 1 & 2
- The warriors
- GTA liberty city & vice city
- Outrun 2006
- Ratchet and clank
- Burnout dominator & legends
- Locoroco
- Patapon
- Chili con carnage
- Metal gear solid
- Metal gera acid 1 & 2
- Metal slug anthology
- Namco collection
- Capcom collection Remixed & reloaded
- Street fighter 2 alpha
- Siphon filter dark mirror & logan shadow
- Castlevania Dracula x collection
- Puzzle quest
- Guitaroo man live
- Riviera
- Valkyrie profile
- Dongeon siege
- Warhammer 40k
- Jeanne d arc
- Legend of heroes 1 - 3 ( the 3 is the one worth something )
- Crush
- Megaman power up & hunter x
- Ghost and goblins
- Puyo pop fever
- Marvel alliance
- Xmen legend
- Silent hills origins
- Tekken dark resurection
- Killzone liberation
- Mercury meltdown
- Medievil resurection
- Midnight club 3
- Final fantasy tactics
- Disgaea
- FF7 Crisis core
- God of war
- SNK classic arcade
- Brave story
- Dead head fred
- Ace combat X
- Lemmings
- Lumines 1 & 2
- Daxter
- SEGA Rally Revo
- MX vs. ATV Unleashed: On the Edge
- Need for Speed Most Wanted 5-1-0
- Test Drive Unlimited
- Hot shot golf 1 & 2
- Virtua Tennis 3
- Worms: Open Warfare 2

If someone can tell there is no good games one the psp after seing this list, i think he has a serious problem, is a pirate and find an excuse, or is a troll...

PS: And those are games or compilation criticaly acclaimed, and that i can guaranti hours of fun...

Is the PSP a sleeping giant? D2C thinks so {Joystiq Playstation}

May 5th 2008 4:13PM Cryptics is fine, and doesnt suck. And yes i own it. I actualy dont like this comic book too much, but i wanted to see the value, and support the authors.

I am not disapointed all in all. The video interviews are a great add on, and the animations and sounds a god idea. But they should first PICK A WELL KNOWN COMIC...at least to start the process and the buzz around the PSP comics.
Second, it could be improved. The Metal gear novel was amazing fr that. Outstanding even.

So please, dont drop the PSP comics, but choose the right one, or make a deal with Marvel or DC...edit some classic xmen, or spiderman, some 1960's batman....etc

As for the PSP, i hope this plateform is not dead yet, for the developpers. The software sales are so low in america and europe, that i guess they would not bother for that much people pirating their games.

Even the already translated japanese games are not released out of japan....

Come on people, show some love to the PSP, buy tons of games ( the price of some are so incredibly cheap, i dont see how some still copy them ), and UMD movies ( i dont know in us, but in france, all new release are below 9 euros, even below 5...great value )

Voila ! I did not post for long, but i am one of the most hardcore defender of the PSP. It is the best handheld i own, since the GB ( and i own them all )

LOVE PSP....

Toshiba giving away HD DVD players with LCD TV purchase... in Australia {Engadget HD}

Dec 22nd 2007 1:01AM HD4ME:

The problem in your strategy, is that toshiba is almost the worst HDTV seller in the market...Specialy in asia. SONY/SAMSUNG/SHARP Are the leader, then behind you can find LG/PHILIPS/PIONEER. So all in all, if free drives are bundled with in toshiba and pioneer tvs, Blu still win. And if ever samsung or sony do the same, at the same time...The war would be over.

Toshiba in all asia, is an almost non existent brand, except in japan. Samsung Sony and LG are by far, the most selling in A/V. In the states, Again Sony sharp and samsung. And europe, Philips samsung and LG.

So all in all, if ever the blu camp is willing to loose monstruous amount of money on their stand alone sales ( you realy believe that Toshiba's player cost that cheap ? ) like the only actor of the red camp, their will be blood. And we all know its colour.

Blade Runner Blu-ray Complete Edition arriving with botched Workprint disc? {Engadget HD}

Dec 20th 2007 4:10AM My dear Nfinity,

You are just full of it. Do you know that there is a world out of your mother nation. And in this other world, HD-DVD is quasi non existant. And i dont talk numbers or graph, or even rumors. I am translating what i saw in the different country i am traveling every years. Here is the results i saw on shelves:
france : blu 70% hd 30% ( sales leading on the blu ) players for both camp
germany : blu 60% hd 40% ( almost triple sales on blu sides ) players for both camp
Belgium : blu 70% hd 30% ( sales leading on the blu ) players for both camp
japan : HD almost non existant near no players available
singapore : blu 70% hd 30% ( sales leading on the blu ) saw only blu player
Hong kong : blu 60% hd 40% ( sales leading on the blu ) players for both camp
Thailand : HDDVD totaly non existant ( blu all the way )
Australia : blu 60% hd 40% ( almost triple sales on blu sides ) players for both camp

YOu see, even if the sales are not that amazing for HD yet, if i was a studio ( and i was not paid by microsoft ) i would invest in the blu camp, because people spend money.

Hd camp is full of people waiting to get rebates, free discs, cheaper players...they dont spend.

It is the same war as the ps3 vs 360. MS is winning because the 360 players spend in game.

IF warner lean red, they are on crack, blinds, deaf, or paid.
Maybe a news would come just a few days later like paramount ?

Joystiq and PSPFB hands on with PSP-2000: Part 2 {Joystiq}

Sep 1st 2007 1:57AM I will just add a little comment:

Please DS fanboy, get out of here.

If you talk about load times, i give you ouedan 1&2 (super long time ) Megaman ZX ( long load times ) luna knights, ff3 ( load and lags ), hotel dusk...

Clearly, the load times are not specialy link with the hardware, but maybe with the ambition of the games. On the psp like on the DS, small games are loading quikly ( and even big optimased ones, like MGS for exemple ). If DS games, mostly load fine, it is because the are small 2d games. Almost all 3D games i have on my DS have loading times equal to the general psp load times.

Second: The AV cable isnt included, but they put a function....and blah blah...
Should i remind you all the there is a audio jack out on the ds, and nowhere to find a head set, even the sheappest, inside the box....IS IT A SHAME TO YOU TO.

I dont say the new psp is flawless, and i whish they could have done better improvement, but as it is , we callit the PSP "SLIM", not the psp2. The main changes where the battery consumption, and the smaller size, with improved ram and slight redesign.

I am hearing something???? what ??? DSphat -> DSlite...nothing new, but a better look, and a little brighter screen ( wich drop the battery life )....but everybody around was wetening their pants ?

How come, when nintendo does the trick people applause, and when sony does, people boo.

COme on guys, specialy psp haters, you dont like the psp, you never intended to buy one, so dont bother to post comments on a thread, and discouraged hobest interested people to buy one, by your messages of childish behavior.

HD DVD touts sales growth over Blu-ray's decline {Engadget HD}

Jul 19th 2007 5:04AM I dont think they care a vhs or a dvd neither...but they still sold more dvds, even if parents had vhs tape players at home....how? MARKETING POWER. Do you need an HDDVD even ? Dvd is fine too....but the way they present it to those beautiful childrens, make it necessary to their eyes....Disney did not communicate about the additive contents yet...lets see how big it will be...More bright colours and amazing sound is alredy enough to convince a big bunch of aficionados.

Then again, Disney can change their mind, but from what they communicate about the format war...they are strictly following BR...and are actualy chairman of the BDA, so it is unlikely to change anytime soon ( like apple )

HD DVD touts sales growth over Blu-ray's decline {Engadget HD}

Jul 19th 2007 4:04AM I just think thet everything takes time....But the lead in the format war is on bluray side. Only one studio is fully behind the hddvd, and independant studios ( wich choose it for the price tag of production ....wich will change since chinese factories found a way to produce BR 30% cheaper ). The problem is what will drives sales like crazy, like the dvd did : The bourne identity or pirates of caribean ? or even more relevant Happy feet, or NEMO ?

The buying process is drived by the mass market and they love blog busters ( and in this domain, bluray is packed full of it...and exclusively for most ), and by the kids . Just look at amazon, and you will understand this point...Go to both format, click Kids and family, and compare... The bluray amount of mass appealing movies for family and kids crush the hd-dvd. And just imagine what will happend after the bluray tour of disney...presenting all those beautifull pixar billion seller movies to those tender eyes... :
" mom i want NEMO now "
" but we have a HDDVD..."
" I dont care this...i want NEMO "

This will be an amazing weight on BR side...

If you had Apple, wich also appeal to mass market, much more than computer freeks...you got a winner.

They are slower than HDdvd to come with price drops and offers, but what they will offer soon ( when apple and disney will wake up ) is a killer machine...

And universal will hardly compete, and will probably have to align.

I am no fanboy, and will not plan to buy neither formats, but i am witnessing everything from asia, and here, the hddvd is almost non existant in the stores...except HMV. Even toshiba is not selling HD players yet, while sony and samsung are feeding people with High def BR on giant screens ( china, thailand and malaysia at least )

The only REAL strong point on the hddvd side is THE PRICE...and this is a major factor to sell hardware...so wait and see.
