360 Dashboard 2.0 mock-up, is Microsoft listening? {Xbox 360 Fanboy}

Jul 1st 2008 5:32PM my point is more along the lines of a major renovation would do away with the ram version of the os. well more like take some things off the ram portion. just have the base os and the background xbox guide portion be on the ram and move everything else to the hard drive. since really the only thing we need running all the time is the xbox guide and core os.

a hard drive is more than fast enough to run what it would be needed to but they couldnt do it because of the arcade unit.

but all of this is predicated on the removal of the arcade unit which we will know one way or the other in a few weeks.

Jul 1st 2008 5:11PM i think we may know something related to this at e3... if the rumors are true the hard drive issue could be going away (and would give more creedence to a major redesign)... but we will know more when ms makes their announcements at e3.

Jul 1st 2008 5:09PM I would also like to see xbox.com have some sort of webpage we can go to where we can purchase and schedule downloads. We already have the basic page already setup for the movies. Would not take much to apply it to all other content on the xbox.

As for this design. Overall it has alot of great points and hopefully ms takes note and does some of them. The search, ratings/reviews of all content, reduction of wasted space, etc.

I do like the more graphical look to the marketplace. That would be a huge improvement over the current system.

Wishful tinkering: Redesigning the 360 Dashboard {Joystiq}

Jul 1st 2008 3:42PM agreed... but i think most people forget here the search is/will be vastly more useful to those of us with chatpads. with a chatpad and a search that updates with each letter i can see myself never using anything but the search. (in the same way i never use the start menu in vista anymore). its quicker to just search for what i am looking for.

i completely agree with the user ratings.... even bring in a review section as well (like amazon) so you can get real opinions of the game. would also work with the download hd movie ratings/reviews.

i also like the ticker for inside xbox but dont know if its going to be needed.... been hearing they are going to start doing alot more with inside xbox and doing a whole section for it (since they are adding new things all the time)

Jul 1st 2008 2:55PM I like some of the elements of this and I think a major refresh of the blades will happen this fall but I want to see them take some more queues from the media center team. the media center ui is one of the very best out there and could translate well to games.

And I for one actually like the ads.... they almost always show new stuff on the marketplace (which is what i want to find so it actually saves you button presses)

Jun 27th 2008 6:15PM Omen_20 I kinda hope they take the opposite approach. It always was kind of stupid to have 2 separate media players for windows. I actually prefer the zune interface to media player 11 now. It does take too much ram to run imo but it does run really well with the 2.5 updates (and looks/functions quite a bit better than anything else out there now). The zune software is quite a bit ahead of itunes in the look and feel dept too imo (and itunes runs like complete crap in windows too.... takes even more ram than zune does on my system).

they do need to standardize around something and not have 2 media players. I have a feeling going forward zune will be the media software of choice since there really isnt anything left in media player.

Jun 27th 2008 12:52PM ben regarding your comment on the 360 overpowering everything in your rack you really must have one of the older units. i never hear mine unless i stick a disc in the console to play a game and what i hear is the disc spinning and not the console itself (which is very quiet playing downloaded games/demos/movies).

my projector (optoma hd70 makes far more noise than my 360 does) and both are about the same distance from my ear.

Jun 25th 2008 4:23PM i actually prefer the way inside xbox works.... quality is not hd but it looks pretty damn good and the fact that it streams instantly is a big plus for inside xbox. i would never want to keep this stuff long term anyways and lets face it.... most of what they put up there i dont need to save but some of the stuff is worth watching.

Jun 23rd 2008 6:56PM looks pretty cool although i wish they would have just put it on the internet tv section in media center so i wouldnt need to run tvtonic (as it looks like i will have to do from the press release)
