Netflix Watch Instantly comes to Vista Media Center, not Extenders {Engadget HD}
May 21st 2009 8:38PM I'm not sure if this mentioned already, but I'm getting the netflix option as part of the extender experience on my xbox 360. It's displays under TV, just to the left of "recorded tv".
Ask Engadget HD: Best CableCARD-equipped HTPC? {Engadget HD}
Jan 1st 2009 12:30PM I just picked up a Velocity Micro Theater System
I'm told they offer great support throughout the life of the product. And to echo a previous comment, this is exactly why I wouldn't buy from a company such asHP or Dell, they are simply not experts on the product. A company such as VM specializes in cablecard hardware/setup. This was very important in my decision. I've read about all the nightmares people have experience with the cheaper systems.
In addition, I liked the opportunity to get Vista with the Media TV Pack, and they also use internal tuners for their cablecard slots.
I do wish there was a quality HDMI 1.3 audio/video card available. My hope is that something will present itself in time for the Windows 7 release.
Proof: $199 360 Arcade and a price cut on Sept 7th {Joystiq Xbox}
Aug 4th 2008 12:33AM Something doesn't seem right here.
There would be no advantage to getting the new 60GB unit, as one could easily add the hard drive later and still be paying a total of $300 (60GB hard drive will be $99, correct?). Plus, you would also have an additional 256mb card.
And, if you added a 120GB drive, this brings your total to $350. That's much cheaper than the Elite.
I realize you get the "black" and HDMI, but seriously...these rumors are certainly not inline with their current pricing hierarchy.
Video: Downloading content with Blu-ray interactive {Engadget}
Jan 10th 2008 12:25AM Anyone else pick up that line about the portable copy? He say's it will be playable on the PSP, but not just any "portable player". When they mentioned it I thought, "Wow, that's cool". Then he says it's playable only on the PSP...Then I thought, "Wow, very alarming!" If they are locking it down to the PSP that is...
Also, he talked up the blu-ray capabilities of the Playstation 3 by saying it's been updated for 1.1 and will continue to be updated as needed, but the stand-alones...that's another story. "Sorry, but here are some shiny new sony players for you to choose from!"
All supporters of Blu-ray, buyers beware...I get the feeling Sony is going to try and corner the market on all these new features and lock them down to benefit themselves.

Jul 13th 2007 11:43AM I like how the amazon ads on the homepage lists a Toshiba HD-DVD player for sale. That's funny.

Apple announces PowerMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Nov 7th 2006 12:06PM I believe I was one of the first to experience these issues. Had on-site applecare techs who made 5 trips to my house trying to figure out the issue. With no luck fixing it, 2 months later I ended up getting a brand new machine, oh and the mac pro just did get released at this time so I spent a few hundred more dollars and now have a Quad 3.0 out of it!
I was sad to see my beloved dual g5 go, but i haven't looked back since.
Hopefully, others do not experience the 2 month long tech issue I encountered. Glad to see they've finally figured out the problem.
Microsoft whines, sues Sony... now that's just sad {Joystiq Playstation}
Oct 24th 2006 3:17PM This is the type of thing I just hate. And besides, you can't compare any of this until the PS3 is released, they have a functioning online service, and everything else they've "promised". We've all heard their tall tales before. I don't believe it until we see it in action. Conclusion, this chart is not even accurate for the PS3 until the product is out and everything is legit.
How about some multimedia details on the PS3? {Joystiq Playstation}
Oct 19th 2006 5:16PM This all sounds promising, however, I am most interested in the PS3's ability to stream files from other devices on my network...similiar to what the Xbox 360 does. However, the 360 cripples you on format compability and no video unless you have MCE. Hopefully, the PS3 does not.
Famitsu head says 360 is dead in Japan {Joystiq Xbox}
Oct 13th 2006 9:26PM Is anyone else tired of hearing about MS in japan? It's like beating a dead horse. I just wish as much effort was put into fans like you and I that really like their product, instead of pulling out the red carpet for an audience that no matter MS does, wants nothing to do with anything not labeled sony or nintendo.
When will MS just start focusing on their strengths instead?
