Thieves choose Blu-ray over HD DVD in mass disc heist {Engadget HD}
Jul 25th 2007 2:15PM What the story doesn't tell you is that the thieves took all of the Blu-ray loot, put it in one huge heaping pile, and burned it all to a cinder. :)
Toshiba extends 5 free HD DVD offer until September 30 {Engadget HD}
Jul 19th 2007 11:20AM Well Toshiba is the one who came up with the promotion originally. Now the BD camp has copied it. If anything, it is the BD boys who are desperate here, not HD DVD.
Blu-ray: Actually, we are the top in European sales {Engadget HD}
Jul 16th 2007 2:52PM They buy DVDs, not Blu-ray movies. As far as I know, they couldn't care less about high def. Half of them use it on a regular TV!
Blu-ray: Actually, we are the top in European sales {Engadget HD}
Jul 16th 2007 1:50PM I know 12 people with PS3s. Only one of them uses it to watch Blu-ray movies. The others play the occasional game and watch DVDs.

Jul 13th 2007 3:19PM True, no standard DVD and only on HD DVD means that it will sell like crazy.

Samsung's BD-P2400 and BD-P1400 third-gen Blu-ray players {Engadget HD}
Jul 11th 2007 11:58PM Do they support BD profile 1.1? If not, they're already garbage in my book.

Blu-ray won't be obsolete in 2007 {Engadget HD}
Jul 3rd 2007 2:27PM The word "obsolete" may seem harsh, but it -- among other things -- is defined as "being replaced with something new or better." In this sense, current Blu-ray players are indeed going to be obsolete on October 31 inasmuch as BD profile 1.1 is concerned. They will not play some or all of the extras that are written for BD profile 1.1, and they cannot be upgraded via firmware to support version 1.1 unfortunately. The movies themselves will play (which is a good thing), but I think a lot of buyers will be sorely disappointed once they learn that the new Blu-ray player they bought recently can't play these cool new Picture-In-Picture extras on future Blu-ray titles. Not to mention the web extras once profile 2.0 comes to fruition.

Blu-ray fencesitters: five free movies sound good? {Engadget HD}
Jun 29th 2007 4:11PM The only thing remotely worth it is the PS3. All other Blu-ray players are already OBSOLETE and won't be supporting the new BD-J 1.1 spec mandated for October 31!!! Man there's gonna be a lot of pissed buyers once they discover that their 'new' Blu-ray standalone player won't play the cool new extras on future Blu-ray movies that were written for BD-J 1.1.

Toshiba confirms HD DVD promotional prices are here to stay {Engadget HD}
Jun 29th 2007 4:06PM FANTASTIC news. I'm betting that we're gonna see $199 prices on Amazon.com any day now for the A2, and $299 for the A20. These are gonna continue selling like hotcakes!! Kudos to Toshiba for keeping the fire lit under Blu-ray's hairy ass.
