GM and Ford take a beating on Wall St. {Autoblog}
Oct 10th 2008 1:58PM You guys don't get it... but enjoy economic crash after crash. Free Market by strict definition means only market forces exist and not government regulation or intervention. Any regulation implements people's control and socialism. I'm not talking communism or marxism, and yes the people would have more control in a properly implement democratic system (of which the US is not 100% democratic with its winner takes all elections).
To further prove my viewpoint is the current economic crash which is the result of Business that could even decide to wait for long term profits but wanted risky profits now, because that all stock holders really want is the stock up now. The decrease of socialistic regulation allowed them to continue and they are still bending rules to give people loans and it is not purely a subprime issue. My BF works in mortgage. So what we need sadly is strict regulation on the banking industry telling them how to do their jobs, because their greed won't let them think for themselves. Which I think oddly, most Americans support securing a better economic system then one were capatalism and greed lead to crashes.
Everyday you have comments on here saying that we can't let GM or Ford fail as it would destroy the economy. We propping them up is Socialism. Now I think their products suck and they should die, but I understand they need to die slowly to protect jobs or change their cars. Now here in America we won't force them to redesign, or prove quality. We will just hand over blind money with little to not regulation (excpet CAFE that is hurting them at such a greatly timed point). So the point is Socialism has never been implemented in a proper democratic way were every vote counts. You know like in the Israeli Parliament where if Party A gets only 6% of the vote they still get 6% of the seats, and aren't a 'looser'.
And 1984 is way more about taking away the freedoms such as speech and becoming big brother. I'm not advocating that at all. I have read Animal Farm as well which touches on Communism, not socialism in how there is NO democracy which lead to a superior class and no real change for the working class. True Socialism is about equality, because honestly most of the time the work of a baker is just as important to society as a scientist. Cuz you won't be a scientist long without food. And equality will make happy workers that will create better products.
The point is we have never seen a true implementation of Socialism, and the close we have come is Scandinavia, but it is still watered down (was truest in the 70s) They have a high standard of life and people that are very happy. Deregulation is changing that, and a move away from Socialism and towards greed (or economic growth) (i've seen it first hand) has lead to the 'bankruptcy' or Iceland.
Meet the Beckers: Audi has fun at expense of BMW, Mercedes and Lexus {Autoblog}
Oct 10th 2008 1:08AM Its not true actually. I find there are just as many Audi fanbois as BMW or Mercedes. And not all Audi drivers drive well, and obviously as this ad proves think they are better than other drivers. Yes I will admit BMW drivers tend to be aggressive and Mercedes do tend to be Woman or Older. But then I'm a younger male driver in my Benz and I like to think I drive well, siginal etc... so stereotypes can be wrong and then this ad can be just offensive, and doesn't make me wanto like Audi more. And I'm a Benz driver... doubt BMW will be warmer than me, if the stereotype is true they will be even more pissed. So the most you could possibly hope out of this ad is new luxury drivers (at this point in the economy, I doubt it) and hope they find the advert more funny than childish. I buy my cars based on perceived style, specs, and perceived quality, not on which brand is cooler or which one is hated the most... hey I even own a Zune.

Oct 10th 2008 12:51AM Socialism is the people's (worker's) control over the means of production and distrubtion. This according to Webster Dictionairy. So yes Democratic (or variant) Goverment Regulation does equal Socialism in my book (which is a good thing). People need to QUIT thinking Socialism = Communism. As a Dictatorship without Freedom of Speech is not Democratic. You can have freedom of speech, competition, and still have socialist tendencies. In fact some form of Socialism will be required for continued American sustainability.
Ford MyKey lets parents control their kids' driving habits {Engadget}
Oct 6th 2008 4:38PM I'm not advocating abortion per say, but I am saying use Condoms/Birth Control or atleast accept the responsibility that comes with actions such as sex. If you can't do those things, perhaps you should not have sex...
Ford MyKey lets parents control their kids' driving habits {Engadget}
Oct 6th 2008 3:29PM Whatever happened to Parents trusting their children? If you can't trust your kid then don't give him the keys to the car. Its like the Simpsons episode last night... you can't always be there and trust, love, and real parenting will do just fine.
These GPS Tracking and Child Control show you have no trust in your kid, and even more so in your ability as a parent. If you don't have the skills or dedication to be a parent, you SHOULD NOT HAVE ONE. Don't pawn of your kid on Ford, the School System, the Governent or any other way you can get out of your responsibilities.
Best Buy launching cellular modem-equipped GPS units {Engadget}
Oct 3rd 2008 8:38PM So this product will work what 9 months? and then Best Buy's warranty department will be all confused since you don't have an extended warranty but they somehow have to cover it. I urge everyone to not shop at Best Buy, but please don't buy Insignia... what a nightmare that TV was.
How would you change Apple's iPod touch 2G / nano 4G? {Engadget}
Oct 3rd 2008 8:29PM I have the 2G Touch and the plug is not recessed, it just 'curves' with the body. Any 3.5mm plug will work with it.
In regards to improvements, well the Zune clearly has the iPod Nano and Touch beat in regards to FM and WiFi Syncing. Hopefully a software update will bring it to the Touch eventually.
HP releases Pavilion dv3500t, its first 13.3-inch laptop {Engadget}
Oct 1st 2008 1:29PM And this computer should last what 8 months until the WiFi fails and nothing can bring it back... (not even motherboard, WiFi card changes)
Microsoft thinks two WiMo devices are better than one {Engadget}
Sep 23rd 2008 8:43AM Sounds good. I mean it seams everyone for example that has an iphone has a friend/family member that has one. So if you were to use that techonogly there you can have the screen go the edge of the device and magnets to hold devices together (and transfer power). You could then play games, watch movies etc together when traveling etc...
This very well could be useful, and no pulling out a laptop doesn't always work (as they tend to be bigger to carry around) and Windows Mobile, Andriod, and the iPhone seem to be poised to replace laptops in being able to carry a smart device around that is more portable for day to day usage.
And lastly, how many couples don't have the same phone? Me and my BF used to and I see alot of couples carrying around iPhones, as even now they work great in pairs.
Ins and Outs: Whatever happened to iTV? {Engadget}
Sep 17th 2008 12:01AM No, DirecTV in the US has it as well. During the year they ran Passions on their exclusive channel you could answer trivia questions about the show using your remote while you watched the show.
But generally the US is just way behind or consumers could care less about it.
