Jul 21st 2008 12:43PM Count me as one of those "Rent, but don't watch and return - rip for later" people. It gets the next movie on the way while I wait for the wife to watch "Nanny Diaries"...no kidding, true scenario.
I saw on the Rambo Blu-ray that there was an offer for a digital copy of SD DVDs, Windows or Apple...what's that about?

Jul 12th 2008 11:30AM Ben,
Have you compared the same 1st Gen broadcast with a 2nd Gen HD-PVR recording?...and could you tell the difference?
Ui's are a personal choice, I know. A lot of people on Sage's forum don't like the stock UI either, and use SageMC. I *do* like the stock UI though, as I don't sit and "watch" or "play with" the UI - I play some HD content. Different strokes, and I'm glad there are choices. Great show guys, thanks.

Jun 17th 2008 5:08PM Guys, the Asus Xonar series cards have better DACs and OpAmps than most of the popular receivers out there. The new Xonar with the daughter board even adds *replaceable* OpAmps, like the old X-Meridian had. This'll allow you to install LM4562's for each channel. This is awesome for an HTPC...a few extra analog cabes is better than having to spend a few grand and take up space with a receiver.

Jun 14th 2008 11:26AM Which of you anti-TASER, pro Meth posters is a Law Enforcement Officer? Military? Use of Force Instuctor? Come on...at least has a degree in Criminal Justice? Didn't think so. Here's how it works gamers...The Use of Force Continuum (Ladder) goes:
1. Command Presence - Just being identified as an LE Officer causes compliance.
2. Verbal Commands - "Step out of the vehicle"
3. Compliance/Restraint Holds - self explanatory
4. OC - "Pepper Spray"
5. ASP/Monadnock (Green Zone Strikes), TASER (generalized, policy dictates specifics)
6. Lethal Force - Firearm or Baton strikes to the Red Zone.
The TASER is not used *in place of* a firearm. If lethal force is justified by agency policy, the officer better have the firearm drawn. Having more rungs on the ladder is not a bad thing. When it was baton and gun and the baton didn't work....
The only reason this is a story at all is because it's California...guess they wanted him just put in a "Time Out". Maybe OC was an option, but I wasn't on scene and it wasn't my judgement call. Do meth, get dead, it would have happened one way or another. All Officers who carry a TASER have also been tazed, so, more LE have been tazed than non-compliant subjects.
About the Virginia Tech comment: Those students are dead because of the Virginia Legislature and School Policy: If one of those 18 yer old or above American citizens killed, was allowed (or chose to break the law) to carry a firearm, lives could have been saved. Douchebags tend not to be so tough when they're on the 2-way firing range. Pay taxes? Sure. Vote? Sure. Go to war? Sure. Protect yourself with a gun? Nooooooooooo.
Blu-ray players to outsell DVD decks by August? Not likely. {Engadget HD}
May 29th 2008 7:29AM DVD: "Prices for the first players in 1997 were $1000 and up. By the end of 2000, players were available for under $100 at discount retailers" - DVD Demystified FAQ
Blu-ray: "The first BD-ROM players were shipped in the middle of June 2006" - Wikipedia
So...In order to start overtaking DVD, BDA has ~ 1 year left to drop the price of players like the Insignia by $250 or more...anyone think it will happen? Ahahahaha!
BTW, I'm format nuetral with an LG Combo Drive in an HTPC. I loves me my HD DVD *and* Blu-ray....but Blu-ray IS A RACKET!

Apr 24th 2008 2:59PM Ben, I just had to...
How's that "just plug it in and have it work" Media Center trating you?
You'll have CableCard up and running about the same time as the Hauppauge HD-PVR comes out ;) I Enjoy the blog btw.

Apr 18th 2008 6:17PM Ben,
Loving that you went HTPC...not SageTV, but any HTPC is better than none :)
Do yourself a favor and pick up a MCE IR Keyboard. With that baby, you can teach your Harmony to control "ANY* program that offers keyboard shortcuts. Just go into your Activity and add custom commands for whatever you want, by holding the keyboard up to the remote's IR receiver.
I've got PowerDVD8 fully controlled.
