HD DVDs vanishing from Best Buy stores {Engadget HD}
Mar 27th 2008 6:20AM Why would Best Buy be willing to do B1G1 Free for HD-DVD back when they were still alive, but now that they're dead they won't cut more than 30% off their ridiculously high near-MSRP prices? And they're shipping them all away before the Circuit City B1G1 Free sale starts this coming Sunday? Best Buy blows.
Amazon offers up Buy 1 Get 1 on Blu-ray flicks {Engadget HD}
Jan 2nd 2008 10:18AM Fortunately, this "wait-and-see" attitude is worth it. Let's all wait for CES 2008 about what Warner is going to do? I'm specifically waiting to buy Harry Potter on HDM because of this. It would be amazing if we could have a week of "peace" until CES 2008's Warner announcement is over.... but I doubt too long will go by before someone ruins my hope by declaring they have an insider who just-so-happens to work at Warner and knows exactly what's going on... or some nonsense like that. Please, just give it a break, guys.
Ask Engadget HD: Which Blu-ray player should I pick up for the holidays? {Engadget HD}
Dec 21st 2007 9:52AM Congratulations, you look to be the first @sshole that had to flare up into a fanboy.
Blade Runner Blu-ray Complete Edition arriving with botched Workprint disc? {Engadget HD}
Dec 20th 2007 7:35AM My favorite is the "my best friends Uncle is on the CES/CEA Board" by Porfirio Reyes.... hehe. As much as I hope that's true, it's just funny to hear that, of all people, we have an insider with such specific information, yet no one else knows about it. Pretty amazing :oP
Toshiba HD-A30 review {Engadget HD}
Dec 19th 2007 2:04PM I didn't know they had HD-DVDs in 1975. That's pretty cool, though...
Microsoft's Xbox 360 HD DVD player: 269000 sold {Engadget HD}
Dec 19th 2007 7:36AM @HD4ME:
I've had the XBox360 since near-inception (March, following the holiday season). I haven't had a single problem with it. It's in a little cubby-hole in my wooden entertainment center, and it's pretty warm in there. But my HD-DVD add-on sits to the left of it, neither of them make much noise, and no RRoD for me (knock on wood, haha). I'm even planning on buying an Elite when I move next August, so I can have another media center hub in my game room and living room. It really was a well-thought-out machine, and it's unfortunately there were quality assurance problems. But M$ is making nice with their warranties, even though it's admittingly a headache having to return it. I don't regret my purchase at all.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending December 9th, 2007 {Engadget HD}
Dec 14th 2007 2:19PM This is what I pulled from Nielsen VideoScan's website:
"Sell-through POS (consumer purchase) sales data are collected weekly from traditional channels of video distribution including mass merchants, audio/video and video specialty retailers, electronics outlets, grocery stores, drug stores, and some Internet sites. Nielsen VideoScan maintains this weekly POS data in one of the largest databases of VHS and DVD products in the country. Data is collected on more than 40,000 VHS items and 12,000 DVD items. Virtually every UPC code in sell-through release since 1993 can be found in our extensive database. Complete sales data in all retail channels are available as far back as January 1999 (however Wal*Mart data is included only through 7/28/01). Prior to January 1999, limited information is available in most channels going back to 1993"
It sounds to me that WalMart IS included? Am I correct? Is there any way to find out what they actually DO include?
Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 HD DVD arriving sans quality? {Engadget HD}
Dec 14th 2007 11:08AM You people are so pathetic for instantly jumping to action and proclaiming your fan-boy rants. It's just so.. disgusting. A simple quality assurance mishap, and people start stoning. Grow up, people.
Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 HD DVD arriving sans quality? {Engadget HD}
Dec 14th 2007 10:42AM That's horrible :( I'm glad I didn't buy the set yet. I'm sure they'll replace it for you, but it's still an inconvenience the customer shouldn't have to deal with.
Third installment of Pirates moves 160k Blu-ray discs {Engadget HD}
Dec 13th 2007 10:22AM Umm... Planet Earth on BluRay is #1 for BluRay at Amazon right now. Get your facts straight, please. And I would argue that Planet Earthbeing on top IS a good thing for both formats, because it actuallyshows a beautiful documentary, with video quality at a level youwould expect for HD. It just so happens that Planet Earth on HD-DVDis selling at a faster clip than BluRay... probably because of thatfiresale in the recent weeks? You're completely discredited now. Although you'll probably comeback and say Amazon isn't everything. Which is true. But to sayPotC3 and Spiderman3 were great movies... that's an entirely differentstatement, lol
