Jun 23rd 2008 10:01PM While I love to watch a good F1 race and see Ferrari blaze through the race faster than anyone, what is up with the officials at this race? Kimi should have been pulled to the pits for that flailing piece of metal exhaust as soon as we saw it on TV, especially after closer look it was being held on by a sensor cable. Then he comes to the pits and the team doesn't do anything about it? And later it does go ahead and fly off.
Anyone else think that even if it had taken out another car on the track, Ferrari would have been given a pat on the back for great racing and accidents will happen?

May 30th 2006 3:12PM Exactly like in the picture, why does everyone that insists on wall-mounting their LCD/Plasma insist on 5 feet off the ground?
Amazing how the cool factor far seems to far outweigh the usability, unless of course you are standing while watching!

May 16th 2006 6:04PM While annoying, I understand the whole reschudule for a Presidential address to be aired, what I don't understand is how it can only be provided in SD!
Come on we are supposed to be making the transition ot HD here, shouldn't these broadcasts lead the way?

Oct 21st 2005 9:39AM I believe MS didn't put one in the box for the simple matter of cost... have you looked at what any named-brand DVI/HDMI 6' cable costs? Now why they do not have one available in the add-on market at launch is just silly, but then again those that want an all-digital connection are going to buy the cable whenever it is available there is no missed opportunity here.

Oct 13th 2005 2:24PM Since all of these issues revolve around license not ownership and 'fair use' why would we even discuss the cost of HD content versus not? If it is $1.99 an hour/episode it should be that price regardless of QVGA, DVD, or HD resolution... it is a license to 'view' the content after all.

Oct 11th 2005 5:47PM I have seen PDA size screens with HD and better resolution they are technically possible and have been for a while... the problem is the hardware to drive them. The prototype I saw about 2 years ago needed a top-of-the-line AGP video card to drive the display at the resolution and DPI - wonder what battery life would be :)

Sep 21st 2005 1:31PM Interesting read... I'm always interested in seeing easier ways for novice users to better determine a 'respectable' screen size for their room and configuration. My question is really in relation to HD viewing versus 'theater' viewing... While these are possibly different end goals, screen size is one reason why some people still feel like they have to go to the movies. While the formulas posted are definitely easier than using viewing angle to determine screen size, they differ from the SMTPE and THX standards by a wide margin. For Example, using the maximum SMTPE viewing distance based on a 30deg view angle, a 12' setup would need a 88" diagonal. then using the THX formula of between 26deg and 36deg, the same 12' setup would need a 106" diagonal. Now obviously the only way to get above the 80" mark at the moment is front projection but that is for another discussion. My old configuration was a 13' prime viewing position with a 122" 1.85 projection screen. This felt so much like the movie theater experience (good sound setup is also required) that we simply stopped going to the movies and HD tv was a true thing of beauty even with just 720p!

Aug 19th 2005 5:52PM I am right with you man... since when is a mediocre component video cable, HD? VGA, DVI, or HDMI are an absolute must to get the signal quality and bandwith high enough for the picture quality HD can display!
