Apr 2nd 2007 9:08AM AAC is partly developed by the same institutions as MP3. It's as proprietary or non-proprietary as MP3. The only reason why people think of the MP3 format as 'free' is that it has been the favourite format for music piracy, just as Microsoft's AVI format has been associated with DivX and pirated movies. Theoretically, if you create software or hardware that uses MP3, you should pay royalties to the Fraunhofer institute. If this all sounds like magic to you, maybe you should inform yourself before posting inane comments.

Seriously, when I'm watching a crummy torrent of SP, after 10 seconds I don't even realize anymore that the resolution is 'only' 512x384. If sharper lines would be essential to the enjoyment of a cartoon, I wouldn't even want to watch it.
