Cable One / Hoak Media strike retrans deal, get ABC and NBC back on the air {Engadget HD}
Nov 24th 2008 1:33AM huh, crazy my city made some news on engadgethd.com. Yeah i have to agree with Nick above. CableOne sucks big time, but he is a little off on the HD Service. Granted it is horrible and small, but they have had PBS, Universal HD, Discovery HD Theater, National Geographic, A&E, HGTV, Food Network, and HBO, Cinemax, TMC (if you get movie package) for at least over a year now. About 2 weeks or so ago they added ABC Family HD, FX HD, History HD, Discovery HD, Disney HD, TLC HD. Also you have the local channels that returned wrong, its CBS and NBC that we got back this week from the Hoak Media deal. The Forum paper is wrong. CBS (KXJB) and NBC (KVLY) are sister companies here in fargo. CBS and NBC are both 1080i stations and KXJB and KVLY use the same equipment out on the tower 38 miles northwest of Fargo, which apparently that tower is the second tallest structure or something in the world, crazy didnt know that until the Forum printed that in the paper recently. But hey, cableone is stupid and for the past year or so since they started HD the channels have been all unlocked, so any clearqam tv picked them up for free. Sadly they blocked them at the same time this Hoak Media deal just went through this past week.
(crazy little tidbit for ya)

Xbox 360 goes 60GB, 20 gigger going for $299 while supplies last {Engadget}
Jul 13th 2008 7:16PM a few people above mentioned it, but thought i would comment again.
Does anyone know or can they confirm if these new Xbox 360's with 60gb hard drive will be the new "Jasper" series.
Rumor back when said "Jaspers" would be coming out August '08.
"Jasper" consists of a new motherboard layout with most importantly the ATI graphics chip being shrunk to 65nm and the memory chips on the motherboard will also be smaller.

Samsung first on the block with 240Hz LCD prototype, 100% better motion, wavier hair {Engadget HD}
May 14th 2008 11:57AM Unfortuately those 240hz DLP's arent really 240hz. They are really 120hz displays, which is very misleading. Samsung's DLP's still use "wobulation" and what happens is half of the 1080p resolution is displayed every 60hz. So in the end, when the full 1080p image is displayed it happens in 120 hz(for the 240hz DLP's). This same technique goes for the most recent Samsung LED DLP's that are listed at 120hz at Best Buy, they are 60hz displays because of the "wobulation", very misleading to customers. I would say techinically these samsung lcd's are the first true 240hz displays.

Mar 4th 2008 2:44PM what a waste of money, at least right now for them. Considering they are a horrible team right now. It's sad when my college made a fool of them this year at the metrodome. Whats even more sad is we were considered pretty much their toughest team of the season, we brought the largest attendence to the metrodome this season, our running back broke a school record in the metrodome, we put almost 600 total yards on them
and oh yeah we are a Division I-AA team!!
Granted we were ranked #1 at the time, North Dakota State University.

lol, 30,000 people drove down from fargo, nd to the metrodome.

Ask Engadget HD: Is it finally safe to buy a Blu-ray player? {Engadget HD}

Sigh, aaron you need to do a little more research on HTPC's.
A lot of your stuff you posted is irrelevant or wrong. I will walk you through.
#1. "The PC is not compliant with HD Deep Color"
yes, this is very true, but completely irrelevant. You do realize that HDMI 1.3 Deep Color is a complete gimick? No DVD's or Blu-rays or HD-DVD's are rendered in Deep Color and never will be because none of the current players will run a "Deep Colored Blu-ray" for example. If Deep Color movies came out all players would have to be replaced and every movie would have to be released rendered in Deep Color. Game consoles might be the only thing that might utilize Deep Color in games if your TV supports it, but that is way in the future.
#2. PowerDVD ultra does play some of the new audio codecs. It supports Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD only in 5.1 configurations and it doesn't downsample the audio quality on your pc, at least with the latest update of PowerDVD.
#3. "There is no way to convey a 7.1 digital HD audio signal from a PC to
a receiver."
Sigh, not completely true. Nvidia 8200 chipsets and Intel G35 chipset(not sure about G35, heard it might with ADD2 addon card or something) motherboards are HDMI 1.3a compliant and do transfer uncompresed audio streams out of the computer.
Also sound cards are out now that have HDMI 1.3 ports on them for transfering uncompressed audio.
Basically depends when software is going to utilize these features to send it out, not sure if the latest PowerDVD update has yet, but most likely will soon happen.
