Netflix shipping out PS3 instant streaming discs! {Engadget}
Nov 5th 2009 1:43PM I didn't get an email but when I visited http://www.netflix.com/InstantStreamingDisc, I was told that it shipped today and I should be getting it tomorrow. You actually have to be signed up for the Netflix service (I'm on the trial period but I'm going to keep it probably) to actually get the disk shipped.
My big question and I haven't been able to see this anywhere, is it going to allow for HD streaming like the Xbox 360 does?

Ask TUAW: Photoshop alternatives, Windows and Mac file sharing, application switching and more {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Oct 8th 2009 1:28PM You can also check Air Video Server [$2.99 on the App Store]. It's amazing, you can stream your movies (I have a ton of 1080p .mkv files) that I stream to the iPhone. It also can stream it to your iPhone outside your home network (you just need to open up a port on the Airport Extreme).
It's totally worth the $$. I love the app and use it reguarly. I have my Mac Pro as my server with all my files located on a 1 TB G-Drive external.

Using FireWire to help speed up the iTunes Home Sharing process {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Sep 17th 2009 8:45PM I'm guessing people would be more likely to carry a FW800 cable around, but wouldn't it be more efficient to use a crossover Cat-5e cable?
I mean, most current Macs come with a Gigabit ethernet port anyways. Good idea though.
Snow Leopard's Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL boost video encoding app by 50 percent {Engadget}
Sep 17th 2009 8:43PM @UnixSystemsEngineer that's not bad, but would you get a IO bottleneck on a hard drive with 70-80 MB/s read speeds? I'm not doubting you, just wondering if I should do the same with my setup.
As for Handbrake, I've heard that they don't plan on making it 64-bit, the libraries they use stem from x264 and that for the most part, they are already multi-core aware. Since x264 is open source, they would have to see if they adopt OpenCL, which I would hope they would. If they won't someone else will.
OWC announces portable, bus-powered external SSD drives {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Sep 11th 2009 8:57PM What bothers me is the fact that it's using FW400/800. SSD sequential read and write speeds are bottle capped by the direct SATA II interface... why would you want to use FW800 on an external SSD? I say might as well buy a 1 TB external.
As for boot drives, well that's a different story. I can tell a HUGE difference when transferring files from Drive Bay 1 to Drive Bay 2 in my Mac Pro.
Steve Jobs says iPod touch didn't get a camera because "it's a great game machine" {Engadget}
Sep 9th 2009 11:14PM Does anyone think Jobs pulled it because he's pissed about the leak that occurred a couple of weeks ago? "Technical difficulties" my ass, it could have been done. I think he'll skip this revision and add it next time with more features. People will just buy an iPhone or iPod nano anyways. That's just my opinion.
Hacking in a second hard drive in a MacBook Pro {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 24th 2009 3:01PM Ryan, there is actually some benchmarks of people who install dual-Intel SSD (2x160 GB Gen 1 SSDs) and run them in RAID 0. The speeds are pretty sick.
BIOS password snag subdues Intel's 34nm X25-M G2 launch party {Engadget}
Jul 27th 2009 3:19PM @Jeremy I bought my 160 GB off if NewEgg for $449. The 80 GB was $224 I believe. It should get to me soon but I got a RMA email earlier today. I'm not going to send mine back considering that I dot even have a BIOS with OS X. They pulled the item soon after I ordered mine.
Things mom may not have told you about Keynote: Presenter Display {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jul 23rd 2009 10:46AM Another main reason I use Keynote. For professional presenters, it has all the right tools to make your presentation impressive. I've used this at work many times and the audience has no idea. It keeps your organized and ahead of the game, which makes a BIG difference.
