Final Fantasy XIII's 'blond-haired bandana guy' named {Joystiq}

Oct 22nd 2008 7:46PM He already has his own theme song: "Informer! You ke-blobbity-blobbity-blobbity-lay! I lick your boom boom now!"

No, I don't know what the actual words to that song are. I don't want to know. That would RUIN it.

Honestly, I like the first name. Like Cloud, it's a gentle name for a man who clearly isn't gentle. But 'Villiers'? That sounds weird. But he has a name! Hooray!

Metareview -- Wii Music {Joystiq}

Oct 21st 2008 11:21PM Haggard, that was AWESOME.

As for me (since my comments will be more visible here) I think Wii Music is a rental, at least. I doubt I'd really enjoy owning it and my family would only play it once--as they do all Wii games--but I can't let this pass without trying it. At least for few hours or so it sounds like an intriguing experience.

EA store reveal Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack {Joystiq}

Oct 11th 2008 10:54PM Replay comes with the REAL expansion packs. I know what they're thinking with this but they've made a sad mistake if they're banking of Spore players being like Simmers. I enjoy the creativity and collecting parts thoroughly, probably more than the actual game, but I'm not going to pay $20 just for extra graphics.

Now, if it were $5 then we'd be talking...maybe.

EA store reveal Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack {Joystiq}

Oct 11th 2008 10:52PM And the award for best comment goes to...

That was a good one! My thoughts exactly (sarcastically, of course.)

Rod Humble promoted to The Sims label lead {Joystiq}

Oct 8th 2008 12:55AM The Sims is dually addicting and annoying. It's honestly fun to see what happens to your pet sims and their kin but the game gets extremely repetitive and it's too easy to see that all you're really doing is pushing buttons. Everything I hear about the Sims 3 makes it sound more like a bonafide game and less like the shallow, clumsy (but loveable) simulator it is now. I'd love to see what he could do to fix Spore.

Here's how they're making The Sims into a movie {Joystiq}

Sep 22nd 2008 1:38PM The only problem with this pitch, aside from it being a pitch for a Sims movie, is that the characters are teenage boys. How many teenage boys play the Sims? College age girls? Then you have the movie.

Really, if they rewrote this to star Tina Fey and Amy Pohler, then I might check it out. That would work.

Max Payne director upset about potential R-rating {Joystiq}

Sep 8th 2008 9:09PM Not quite. Go see "This Film is not Yet Rated" and learn yourself somethin'. The MPAA, while partial to what studios want (usually), is more fussy about sex and swearing than violence.

Anyway, Max Payne NEEDS an R rating. The games were M rated. Why should the movie be PG-13? It will be more attractive if it's an R and teens will still be able to get in if their parents say okay. Most will probably shake their heads and buy the tickets for those kids who don't just sneak in.

The only thing I agree with (or disagree, you could say) is the rating for The Dark Knight. I loved TDK but it was rated too softly. While it was (thankfully) devoid of any serious gore except for Two-Face, it had enough violence to warrant an R, especially the pencil trick.

Amazon users slam Spore for DRM {Joystiq}

Sep 8th 2008 1:45PM If the real player reviews are any indication, Spore can garner enough real 1 star reviews without people bitching about DRM.

I'm still waiting for my copy of Spore so I can make up my own mind about it.

PAX 2008 hands-on: Spore, have we seen enough already? {Joystiq}

Sep 3rd 2008 1:39AM despite the fact that no one will read this...

I think Spore will really shine once the expansion packs come out. But they'll only do that if Maxis really listens to the fans who play the game. Yes, Spore is (slightly) over hyped and I blame myself among others who got their hopes up way too high. That said, I haven't even played it yet so I still have hope!

Judging by what I've seen from the Sporepedia, Maxis made a mistake in their marketing. You do not see cute and cuddly so much as weird or realistic in the creature designs. The audience will be hardcore simulation fans, not necessarily hardcore gamers and almost definitely not people who love The Sims. The EPs will have to deepen the gameplay or--I hope--they'll have to find completely new gameplay from the Spore resources. They may even have to go the route of making traditional games using Spore resources. Gabe on Penny Arcade said that Spore looked more like a game creator than a game. That may be the secret to Spore's future but who knows? Most people still have yet to play it, damnit. DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT.

Fan's Labyrinth: del Toro approves of Team ICO {Joystiq}

Aug 28th 2008 9:59AM Hellboy? No. The movies are okay but they are not representative of del Toro at his best. What you need to watch are his Spanish Language movies. The pun at the top refers to Pan's Labyrinth, his masterpiece. And then Cronos is good too.

No whining about subtitles either. Both have English dubbed versions.
