Apple ponies up free Mini DisplayPort spec licenses {Engadget}

Dec 1st 2008 11:08PM Licensing fees. For example, if it cost $1 for Dell to stick in an HDMI port into a laptop, and they ship 10 million computers in a year, then they've just "lost" $10 million dollars.

HDMI has licensing fees, DisplayPort does not.

And I really doubt that Apple has the legal ability to modify a spec and then charge people for access to it. Sounds like IP theft with a paint job to me.

Apple releases QuickTime 7.5.7, fixes HDCP issues {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 26th 2008 12:07AM I still refuse to buy any HD content from the Apple store when it's obvious at what a huge ripoff it is. Heck, those episodes cost more than the damn DVD/Blu-ray for crying out loud and it's at a lower resolution!!!!

I know someone's gotta pay bills for the bandwidth and all but cut me a break here! What idiot would willing pay more money for an inferior copy? Now, if they had bundled the iTunes version (iPhone/SD/HD) and combine that with a promise of a hard copy when released for a reasonable price (maybe $65), I could understand, but content companies just don't get it. I will NEVER in my life pay twice for the same content. NEVER. Doing so means that I am paying not only for the "license" to watch their content, but the media its delivered on, again pure BULLSHIT.

Sorry to ramble so much, but until they fix this obvious gap, it's all about Bittorrent/cable DVR. I'm not paying any more money than I have to.

Nov 17th 2008 4:09PM Seriously, Mobile Safari crashes enough as is, we don't need to add Flash to Apple's "bag of hurt".

Nov 17th 2008 10:48AM Wireless sucks for transferring large amounts of data because the transfer speed always fluctuates up and down. Constant speeds are FAR better for streaming HD video and what not.

AT&T to charge $30/month for tethering, says MacBlogz {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 12th 2008 11:07AM Let me get this straight. AT&T wants us to pay at least:

$39 for voice
$30 for data
$5 for SMS (not required but i think iPhone users send more than 50 texts/month)

and now $30 for tethering on top of that?

Even for the most rabid fanboy out there, I've got two words for you: TOTAL BULLSHIT.

Apple's Greg Joswiak touts iPod touch as the future of handheld gaming {Engadget}

Nov 12th 2008 10:45AM @Flashpoint

Such a combined device will never happen because you'll drain the battery a ton from playing games and have nothing left to actually make a phone call. You'll be charging your iPhone all the time! That's why Apple hasn't advertised gaming on the iPhone but instead the iPod Touch, you wouldn't want customers to wise up that the iPhone 3G's battery can't hold up anywhere nearly as long as the PSP and DS can.

Some things really should be kept separate. The iPhone can be good at short 10-20 minute games, but anything longer than that demands that your battery won't suffer because of it.
