Yes, Virginia, you do have to log out to switch graphics cards on the MBP {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Oct 16th 2008 8:43AM It would have been nice if you could set it to use integrated graphics when it's on battery. Perhaps they could have had the user put the laptop to sleep, pull the cord, and then wake it to change the rez.
Microsoft's "I'm a PC" ad gently alights upon the airwaves {Engadget}

iPhone 2.0.2 security flaw makes private data accessible {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 27th 2008 9:50AM The problem is bigger than that. Using the emergency button, I can dial any number. So someone who steals or finds your phone can hit the emergency call button and then dial any number they want. This sucks. What the hell were they thinking? What I WOULD like is a button that shows up on the lock screen that says OWNER INFO so that if someone finds my phone they can email me, or phone another number. BUT ONLY THAT.
Poll: Do you still use component? {Engadget HD}
Aug 20th 2008 12:29AM I use HDMI for my TiVo and I use an HDMI to DVI adapter for my Mac Mini. I use component for my AppleTV. I don't use a DVD player or Blu-ray yet. But when I do get a Blu-ray (if I do) I'll probably use component. Although I do like the simplicity of connecting one cable and a power cord, and I would like the all digital nature of HDMI, the biggest trouble I have is that my TV doesn't pass HDMI audio through the TV's optical output. Fraking Sharp. So I still have to use an optical output to my soundbar since it doesn't have HDMI. I don't have the money to replace it with a receiver and 7.1 speakers.
Logitech snaps up Ultimate Ears, chasing this "portable audio" market we've heard so much about {Engadget}
Aug 14th 2008 1:14PM Say goodbye to UE. Same thing happened to Cambridge Soundworks, which made excellent, but affordable speakers. They still do, but they were bought by Creative. I bought computer speakers and what came was more like Creative's crap quality rather than Cambridge Soundworks. They had just slapped the premium name on their schlock quality product.
Logitech makes some good stud and a lot of schlock. I'm not hopeful.
A better App Store {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 6th 2008 2:33PM I want to be able to hide apps, never to be seen by me again. There are some apps I see that I know I will never want. The frigging "rich" app is a great example. BAN!
Also, let me see all the latest apps in chronological order. I hate having to dig back through just to see what's new. Apple has some "new" items that have been there for a while.
I want to trial some apps. Frogger might be fun. But I don't want to pay $10 to hate it. Super Monkey Ball sucks balls, in my opinion, but I'm stuck with out $10.
TiVo quietly removes Series3 from its webstore {Engadget}
Jul 30th 2008 12:51PM The main reason it makes me sad is now they will be even less likely to keep up with software updates. TiVo is generally pretty good about this. But they still haven't enabled M-Cards for the Series 3 like they have for TiVo HD. So I have to pay for two CableCards instead of one.
Apple admits to lost MobileMe messages, bad karma {Engadget}
Jul 27th 2008 6:16AM I suscribed to DotMac and although it was overpriced, I liked it. But mobile me sucks. They took away group contacts and calendars. You used to be able to add temp email aliases. I think that's gone. I subscribe to family members calendars so I know when they work. But it won't synch subscribed caledars to the iPhone. The I have a laptop and home server at home and two macs at work, plus my boyfriends computer that I sync to and they all had to be removed and reset because the sync data has become corrupt. I'd cancel except I've had this personal email address for years. That and if I cancelled I couldnt sync my devices. MobileMe was supposed to addict people to Apple services. Not gonna happen. They need to fix it and give it away for free.
Verizon whines to FCC: make it easier for us to gain market share {Engadget HD}
Mar 27th 2008 7:02AM This is a BAD idea. I hope the FCC won't allow this. In the long distance field there is "slamming" where a rival long distance company will call your current long distance carrier and cancel your service and put you onto their service. It happens to me every few years. The last thing I want is to come home and find out my cable doesn't work because someone has hijacked my account. Obviously it wouldn't be as seemless anyway. Most of us have equipment that needs to be returned and new equipment that needs to be installed.
