'Avatar' Footage Screened, New Images Now Online {Cinematical}
Jun 24th 2009 3:18PM I know everyone thinks Cameron walks on water, and Titanic made a boatload of money, but really, aside from the sinking, it was really a POS, as was True Lies. But, if we can get away from the onslaught of hype this film is gonna generate, we know he's capable of hitting this one out of the park. Let's hope for that and not another Titanic.
Snow White's Blu-ray debut is October 6 {Engadget HD}
Apr 3rd 2009 4:21PM If you really think that then you ought to check out Pinocchio on Blu Ray. I don't understand the prejudice I see against animation in HD that crops up in this forum. I thought that people who read and respond to Endgadget HD understood something about HD.
Comcast adds a bunch of HD nets in Boston, Massachusetts {Engadget HD}
Dec 18th 2008 3:15PM Comcast blessed us Vermonters today with 17 new HD channels including MGM HD, IFC HD, Cartoon Network HD, Toon Disney HD, Travel Channel HD, ESPN News HD. Way to go Comcast!
Comcast hits the sauce a little too hard, claims more HD than DirecTV {Engadget HD}
Sep 12th 2008 5:17PM I live in VT and Comcast has run similar ads on tv and newspapers here. I also counted the options up a couple of months ago (before they added a more channels and more VOD) and there were over 400 choices then. While many of you may think the add is bullshit consider this: do you want 500 choices or 95? Both have PPV included in their count as well as their share of stretch-o-vision and bullshit channels. I say the more the better and I watch VOD HD often (it also leaves more room on the DVR).
Poll: What's your favorite HD movie channel? {Engadget HD}
May 23rd 2008 10:10AM Cinemax has the most movies and would be my first choice but they too often crop anything over 1.85 so I go with Starz which usually preserves the proper aspect ratio as does Showtime. I know a lot of people hate Comcast but the Starz HD on demand channel has loads of great movies I can watch at my leisure. I also have a large selection of HD DVD's and Blu Rays so I get to see a good cross section of both quality and quanity (and of course both the optical HD formats are at the top of the list for PQ).
Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080HD tops Home Theater Mag's HDTV shoot-out {Engadget HD}
Mar 3rd 2008 5:48PM I have a Panny 50" plasma and before I bought it I too looked at the Pioneer. At the time the Pioneer was nearly twice as much, and the picture, though beautiful (and would have been my first choice but for the price) was not twice as beautiful as the Panny. I guess second place isn't so bad, and let me tell you, the picture on the Panny is very hard to beat. Like the review said, it just looks good!
Ask Engadget HD: Which provider has the best quality HD? {Engadget HD}
Feb 21st 2008 5:26PM I left DTV for VOOM because of the incredibly poor HD quality. When VOOM went belly up I switched to cable - Adelphia at the time now Comcast - and up here in Vermont the Comcast quality isn't too bad and the locals look great in HD although the CBS and NBC affiliates have more pixelation problems than the others, probably because of the secondary digital channel they have. Also, Comcast HDOD is pretty fair quality. Not HD DVD or Blu Ray quality, but generally pretty good and great selection.

Universal HD DVD exclusivity contract has expired, sits non-renewed {Engadget HD}
Jan 10th 2008 5:18PM Please don't feel sorry for me because I bought into HD-DVD (I also bought into Blu Ray). I have about 70 HD-DVD movies (and I will probably buy more) that looks absolutely beautiful on my Panny 50" 1080 plasma. The player is not obsolete nor will it become a door stop. I knew the odds were in Blu Ray's favor but I still prefer HD-DVD, and will continue to use it often as it upconverts my SD DVD's beautifully. And yes, I will still be looking for a sub $500 combo player or a fire sale Toshiba.
Poll: What's your most anticipated HD technology for 2008? {Engadget HD}
Dec 29th 2007 6:01PM Another vote for a combo player under $200. Soon.
