What's in a Name? BMW to roll out sDrive for rear-drivers {Autoblog}
Dec 4th 2008 12:43AM I thought I heard this was in response to some sort of lawsuit, where a customer purchased a car, then later claimed it didn't contain the engine he thought it did due to model # confusion...

Is Blu-ray destined to become a "videophile niche?" {Engadget HD}
Oct 29th 2008 1:31AM re: bandwidth caps - Most ISPs have bandwidth caps? no, but many ARE considering caps on upload bandwidth to curtail P2P/torrent activity. This should not affect downloads of HD media from the large content providers.
"...consumers are having a tough time finding a value proposition in the format, which doesn't look phenomenally better than upscaled DVD in most eyes."
quit calling this "misinformation". It's a bit of marking principals mixed with some opinions. I have a very good upscaling DVD player and a PS3 hooked to a 1080p projector. Even with a 106" picture, upscaled DVDs do look pretty darn good... If I show it to a JoePlummer, I get a "WOW"! Now if I then show Joe a BluRay movie... I get another WOW. But it's not the same difference as going from some crappy, compressed SD broadcast to an HD one... it's a more subtle increase of detail. Joe even sees that it looks better, but when you ask him to open his wallet... good enough prevails!
I think BluRay has, with a better strategy (lower prices mostly), awesome potential. I really really hope it doesn't fall into that niche area. If they build up momentum, I think they help US more by showing what HD *CAN* look like. So when Joe sees some streaming HD content vs. BluRay, issues like compression & crappy bitrates become more obvious.

Oct 8th 2008 7:28PM As far as I'm concerned, Indiana Jones is still a trilogy. But I'm curious how it does too...
JL Audio's Fathom f212 in-home subwoofer gets official {Engadget HD}
Oct 5th 2008 11:35AM This is about the same price as two F113s which would have more output & more placement flexibility. That said, my single f113 is pretty amazing, so I'm not sure what word to use for this thing!
Anchor Bay's DVDO EDGE takes anything to 1080p for $799 {Engadget HD}
Aug 30th 2008 2:37AM wait, so you're implying that all upscaling devices produce the same picture quality?
yes, going the digital --> analog --> digital route will reduce the picture quality, but that should not be the case with a DVI / HDMI source...
Digital Security Systems files patent infringement suit against major Blu-ray players {Engadget HD}
Aug 17th 2008 6:26AM Maybe they're testing the waters... ie: file the claim against those that are less likely to fight back, get a judgment, then file a 2nd claim hoping to simply settle for a large chunk of $$.
I'm just disappointed in my fellow Texans for letting this techno-pond-scum accumulate here!
Autoblog First Drive: 2009 Acura TL [w/VIDEO] {Autoblog}
Aug 12th 2008 9:52PM This is exactly the opposite of what Honda needs these days... They should watch Audi: take a handful of great design elements and apply them to your lineup without forcing it on them. Acura, on the other hand, has taken an ugly stick and beat their entire family with it.
Pioneer European Kuro lineup sign of things to come? {Engadget HD}
Apr 8th 2008 1:21AM I don't know about you, but my AE2000 uses LCD panels, the Kuro projector described here uses D-ILA. Unfortunately, I doubt it'll come under the JVCs' pricepoints...
Next generation BMW Z4 to get folding hard top, possibly M3's V8 {Autoblog}
Apr 7th 2008 5:22PM I agree. I've had my Z for 5 years now and still love it, but the steering is the weak link. For my last service, I got a 335 as a loaner... if the steering felt that good, the car would be darn near perfect.
Aside from that, I love the style. The twin-turbo I6 would be great. The V8 would certainly make it the quickest in BMW's stable.
