Aug 22nd 2008 7:53AM Many people are asking why some would buy this player over cheaper alternatives with similar specs. The big difference is the Silicon Optix chip. For those seeking the upscaling performance delivered by this chip the premium is not a problem. I would consider this player if my experience with the BD-P1200 was not so bad and if it internally decoded DTS-HD HR and MA.

Aug 22nd 2008 7:49AM I read the manual last night from Samsung's website and it does not internally decode DTS-HD HR or MA. It bitstreams both. It will internally decode DD+ and TrueHD.

Jul 25th 2008 11:40AM I love USA-HD. I watch Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, and Monk. Those programs alone are worth it. I know Ben hates watching the Law and Order re-runs but USA air first runs for Criminal Intent. If a single change can provide me with four shows a week I like in HD I feel they are doing well.
I know I can find four movies a week on HBO-HD, Showtime-HD, Starz-HD, or Cinemax-HD which I would want to watch each week.

May 27th 2008 8:01PM I can't wait to order mine. Unfortunately Athem doesn't allow their products to be sold via the internet so I have to find time to make it to my local dealer which is a pain. I still believe there is no better SSP and scaler than the D2. It is the best purchase I have me. Secrets of Home Theater did a great review as well.

Jan 19th 2008 11:06PM As an owner of a Samsung BD-P1200 running the latest firmware I can confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt it does not decode TrueHD. Decoding TrueHD was a capability promised (via firmware update) at last years CES but Samsung never delivered.
