Jul 17th 2008 1:17PM its mostly to presvere films that werent preserved properly. like godfather unfortunatly they only did a 4k transfer i hope they can still save the original film long enough to do a 6-12 k, but the film was in piss poor condition it was never handled properly. now it is in paramounds vaults but prior til the 90s it wasnt stored like it should be.

Jul 17th 2008 12:33PM when digital tech can improve over time, they will be able to get 8-12 k images from many older films. digital still isnt on the full level of film yet. prob 10-20 years but the problem is many older films werent preserved properly (when presvered well film can last well over a hundred years)

Jul 17th 2008 12:29PM um 25 GB is bigger than hd dvd so whats your point, and newer big releases will get the 50+ GB discs in due time so? but 4 k wil need something bigger and a higher bitrate than bluray can currently offer.
also bitrate extremely important. why have something too compressed? no one wants download quality crap

Jul 16th 2008 6:48PM not everyone wants nor needs 2.0 so whats the point? you still can watch the movie and some players might have firmware updates. and whats to say non of the players will support it. they dont come out til 09 so by then they prob will all have profile 2.0 support
and a few newer players would have stereo 3d support

Jul 15th 2008 5:00PM um no, this is not a fare well to blu, its more of something to get people to move on towards blu and see the value of blue.
lets see $15 for sd films via download lol or 20 for blu?????
$6 movie downloads for rental lol
gets netflix account rents all dvd and blu ray i want, and gets low quality streams like everyone else as an extra incentive. and can just purchase cheap blu ray movies.
i do not see this as anything that canhurt blu ray at all.
all next gen consoles will either a have blu ray drives
or b have a higher capacity disc drive. or both :)

Jul 11th 2008 12:35AM not saying im not for the toshiba scaler. i'm all for it as a good scaler for sd content as a tv scaler but it is no replacement for blu ray. its ok for movies with decent sd transfers on dvd (not ones with poor ones) it will look better than most scalers sure, but not HD. its ok for peoples current collections, so they don't have to worry about just replacing it yet til their favorite films they already own come to bluray. i would replace the ones i like the most as the price falls on blu ray discs. and only buy new movies on bluray.
