In New York City, garage is spelled with a $ {Autoblog}
Sep 1st 2008 6:43PM Heck, we just sold two newly created parking spaces in our condo building in downtown Washington DC for $53 and $57,000 - and spaces regularly sell for $50,000 in condo buildings. Not sure what folks see in other cities, but I'm pretty sure these NYC numbers are the same for Boston, DC, Philly, Chicago and San Francisco
Grandialer, an iPhone app for GrandCentral {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 15th 2008 1:43PM DaveK - you cannot play your grand central voicemails in any form on the iphone due to the lack of flash support apparently. All the more odd since the GC vm files are just mp3s. I have to blame google more than apple as they have done zero-zilch-bubkiss-nothing to develop GC since they took it over, and I imagine there is a simple workaround to allow the iphone email app to see the mp3 messages. For now this is a big problem for me as I had been able to retrieve messages on my old WM6.1 phone and assumed I'd be able to do the same on the iphone.
Popcorn Hour puts A-110 HD media streamer, B-110 mobo up for pre-order {Engadget}
Aug 4th 2008 5:46PM uh, yeah marx, but it CAN'T PLAY HD VIDEO. When are all these xbmc folks going to stop piping up every time any other media player is mentioned. Get .ts and h.264 media support and we'll talk.
Bill proposes bill break: five-year wireless tax freeze on the table {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 20th 2008 10:21PM 1) The bill bans new or discriminatory (ie. on your cell bill but not on your morning coffee) by STATE or LOCAL governments, which is where the far majority of current cell taxes come from. There has not been an increase in federal cell taxes for a while (and it would have to get around the same people who are supporting this) so the main threat to the consumer is in these state and local taxes.
2) Yes, reducing them would be better, but in this environment with state and local govt's pleading poverty, a moratorium is at least a start.
Verizon's LG Dare touchscreen contender available tomorrow for $200 {Engadget}
Jun 25th 2008 1:04PM wow, uh, no, some of us just have jobs and can pay for a data plan that is fast, available everywhere and doesn't have any of wifi's other liabilities.
Look, I think the iphone is a nice piece of kit, and I know cdma is a technological dead end, but RIGHT NOW Verizon offers the best voice network (by far, and I've used them all, and I travel around the country monthly) and the best data network (rev a, + verzions coverage advantage over sprint) and if this is the best writable touch phone they're going to make available (no x1, no touch pro) than so be it, let's see some reviews.
Spy Shots: 2010 Ford Mustang glass-top coupe and base convertible {Autoblog}
Jun 16th 2008 2:21PM interesting - the convertible shot confirms that this car DOES NOT have the vertical bump up at the hip line (behind the doors) that folks expected as a nod to the '68s. It looks like a pretty straight belt-line as with the current version - heck it almost looks like a front and rear refresh as opposed to a more fundamental redesign. Guess my '06 won't look so different after all.
Honda FCX Clarity set to enter limited production and sale {Engadget}
Jun 16th 2008 11:31AM for now, natural gas retification mostly, at the filling station, though if the demand rose it would start to come from direct h2o conversion - an inefficient process, but able to make use of otherwise unusable non-carbon energy -- excess heat from nuclear plants, and utility energy oversupply (one of the nice side benefits of wind.) Though, of course, even the nat gas is far cleaner than just burning the oil as the gas is delivered to the station by pipeline rather than truck, and the actual energy efficiency of the honda cells is quite high.
Of course, you knew all that and we're just making your, "oil and coal" point with your fellow chucklehead in order to justify being defiant little kids in opposition to everyone telling you to be good and conserve. Fight the Power kid... erm.. ok, maybe not the "power" ... how about you just go away.
Lost: There's No Place Like Home, Part Two (season finale) {TV Squad}
May 30th 2008 2:02AM Influences? I'm not sure that word means what you think it means. If by influences you mean the way Apollo influenced Rocky, then maybe - Locke and Bentham are polar opposites when it comes to philosophy, making the choice interesting - ie. something fundamental changed in Locke to get him to leave the island.
In pop-philosophy Bentham originates the "ends justify the means" line of thought - though that does seem to exemplify Lockes behavior up to this point in the show.
Lost: There's No Place Like Home, Part Two (season finale) {TV Squad}
May 30th 2008 12:18AM The most direct connection between John Locke (the philosopher) and Jeremy Bentham (the philosopher) is that Locke was a leading proponent of Natural Rights and Bentham was one of the original leading critics of natural rights (other than Charles I and Louis XVI, I mean.)
Video: Google demos the HTC Dream at I/O conference {Engadget}
May 28th 2008 3:48PM ok, with my own scared and increasingly loathed universal sitting next to me on my desk, that made me laugh - this is finally the answer, after oh so very long to all the desires of those who bought the first (apache/univeral) generation of these phones, and dear good did it take a long time. What is the release date on this damn thing anyway???
oh, and if it ends up like the Omni, no there won't be an end of the earth far enough to protect the HTC folks from our wrath.
