Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending July 20th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Jul 29th 2008 10:36PM Um yeah. 'Holding onto HDDVD'? You mean buying from a library of over 700 films with equivalent transfers to what you have (or will have) on Blu-ray for 50% to 75% less what you're paying? Sounds really moronic to me. Especially when you consider that all physical format HD films will end being transferred to media servers to sit right beside digital downloads in the not to distant future. I assume you're familiar with what has happened in the music industry? A few more years and storage/distribution will become affordable enough for the same thing to happen with film.

And 50% of all discs sold being BD by next xmas? In the middle of a worldwide recession for a product that most consumers perceive as marginally better than their existing DVD's? Talk about a moronic conclusion.

The Ultimate Matrix Collection to make Blu-ray debut on October 14th {Engadget HD}

Jul 24th 2008 7:56PM An $85 premium for the superior transfer and loads of extra features you'll get with Blu-ray. Oh wait, it will be the exact same transfer as HD DVD with a few hours of extra stuff most people won't watch anyway.

Antennas Direct cuts its ClearStream2 antenna in half, calls it ClearStream1 {Engadget HD}

Jul 20th 2008 12:09PM I'm not sure I'd call them gimmicky - I've owned both the DB2 & DB4 and have been very impressed. The Clearstream seems like the smaller, slightly more attractive version of the DB series. These are not those cheap POS's you'd get at Best Buy, they're legitimate high-def antennas.

First region free Blu-ray players available {Engadget HD}

Jun 26th 2008 1:00PM Umm...people who wish to watch foreign films and/or hi-def films available in other countries but not in the US maybe? Guess I don't really need to ask why, as your avatar says it all.

Warner Bros. lines up BD-Live films for winter release {Engadget HD}

Jun 24th 2008 12:51PM It's about time the Blu-ray feature set caught up to what HD DVD has had for the last two years. This will hopefully make my eventual Blu-ray purchase less of a step down. Now if only they'd lower prices and remove the ridiculous copy protection and region coding.

Sony intros STR-DG520, STR-DG720 and STR-DG820 AV receivers {Engadget HD}

Jun 23rd 2008 12:59PM I wouldn't touch one of these with a ten foot pole. Every piece of Sony equipment I've ever owned (excluding my two-year old LCD projection television, knock on wood) has had serious reliability problems. After only three years of use my last Sony receiver had display issues and channels would randomly cut in and out. Two trips to the repair center still couldn't resolve whatever was wrong with it.

Baltimore, MD gets local HD news courtesy of FOX 45 {Engadget HD}

Jun 3rd 2008 9:23AM Can't stand those neocon bastards either.
