Does Your Husband Help Out at Home? {ParentDish}

Dec 2nd 2008 9:02AM See this month's Cookie magazine. There's an article entitled "Letter to a do-nothing dad", written by a dad who does something. There's also a letter to the do-nothing dad's wife, chastizing her for not insisting that her husband help out a little.

Georgia Tech Knows From Real Manhood {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}

Nov 11th 2008 12:39PM You forgot the win over Boston College, and since this was posted, a win over FSU. Sure, Tech lost to top-20 UNC last week, but at a bowl-eligible 7-3, the "GT nation" isn't complaining. Especially when you remember that the Jackets were predicted to be downright awful this year.
If they can win this many games with an all-new offensive and defensive scheme, 16 underclass starters, and a dreadfully thin O-line, imagine what they'll do in a year or two!

Mom gets teen to behave by giving her cigarettes {ParentDish}

Oct 21st 2008 11:58AM "Mother of the year" award reclaimed from Lynn Spears in 3...2...1....

Halloween at school - A do or a don't? {ParentDish}

Oct 2nd 2008 8:54AM If you're going to blacklist Halloween becuase of it's religious undertone, then you must do the same for Valentine's Day and St Patrick's Day. I don't think most kids know or care that these holidays have religious history... they just like getting candy and having a reason to dress up, whether it's as a ghost for halloween or simply wearing green on St Patrick's.

Average SAHM has 94.4-hour work week {ParentDish}

Oct 1st 2008 3:03PM It is indeed considered "babysitting" when you claim that it has a monetary value as the original article asserts. If it's parenting, then it's free. Which makes my point: don't make claims that being a mom has all this monetary value unless you consider the value of being a dad as well. And it's pointless to put a monetary value on it, because money can't buy a parent.

Average SAHM has 94.4-hour work week {ParentDish}

Sep 30th 2008 12:50PM I beg to differ. What about dads? Contrary to popular belief, my duties as a working dad include not only working 45 hours/week to bring home a paycheck, but another eaula amount of yardwork, babysitting, psychology, tutoring, cooking, cleaning, etc etc etc. Most of it is the equivlaent to what the mom does. And I don't get paid a penny for any of it either.
Do not try to make me feel sorry that you have to do all those things for free, ladies, especially when dad is supplying the income that pays for your minivan and trips to the mall. Sheesh!

Dress code violation - Bald kid told to lose the hat {ParentDish}

Sep 10th 2008 9:24AM I would think that this kid's situation would qualify as a disability, for which the school MUST make reasonable accommodations. Or does the UK not have laws about this like those in the US?

Win a Lexmark X7675 wireless printer and two cartridges {Engadget}

Aug 27th 2008 8:57AM I'd consider a neighbor wirelessly printing porn on this printer to be a bonus feature :-)

How much sleep do you get a night? {ParentDish}

May 15th 2008 9:49AM SWMBO and I get a good 8 hours rest on weeknights, and 9-10 hours on weekends. Our kids are 5 & 7 years old.

For those who have trouble getting to sleep, try Melatonin. It works very well for our 7 year old who takes Concerta for his ADHD (which has an unfortunate side effect of causing sleeplessness).

Picking your battles {ParentDish}

Apr 17th 2008 4:15PM I've successfully modified my princess-obsessed daughter's behavior by saying "princess don't pick their noses," "princesses always wipe their bottoms," etc.
