Cinematical Seven: Movies Celebrating Alcohol {Cinematical}
Dec 6th 2007 12:28PM This list is the worst Cinematical seven recently... not for topic, but for omission of an obvious.
No "Strange Brew," one of the greatest canadian films of all time?

Improving Lives Through Documentary Films {Cinematical}
Jan 4th 2007 11:56PM This is not the first documentary on plight of children in Uganda. The Documentary "Invisible Children" while feeling sometimes more like an MTV production than a social justice motivated documentary, exposes the conditions that these displaced children are living in. A large grassroots movement has risen up to help get something done about this sad situation.

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Movies to Date By {Cinematical}
Aug 10th 2006 1:21AM On the Geek side of things, it's been a long time since i've seen it, so this recommendation must be taken with a grain of salt, but I always remember The Rocketeer as being a good film. It was produced by Disney though, so who knows.
If you can ever find it, which I don't think it's available on DVD yet, so that may be a far stretch, but check out "War of the Buttons," another irish comedy. It's a GREAT film about kids from two towns who are in an all out war - kids style.
That description also makes me think of Hook, which might be a good one too.
Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Movies to Date By {Cinematical}
Aug 8th 2006 10:48PM Hmm well many of the good ones have been suggested, here's a few more.
The Sting - I saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid listed above, but the Sting is the better Paul Newman/Robert Redford duo. Classic Joplin soundtrack, fun con man movie, classy the whole way through.
Amelie - most definitely
Elf - watch it around the holidays or not, but it's one of Will Ferrel's classic performances, light hearted but not cheesy (until the ending, but it's forgivable)
Millions - hopefully destined to be a classic, this movie has great imagination, great story, and most of all, Danny Boyle handles it with great fun.
Waking Ned Divine - great little Irish comedy about a town attempting to claim the lottery prize won by one of their own. Unfortunately his elation was his demise, but they try to honor him well.
Danny Deckchair - great little Australian comedy about a man who lives as he wishes, until he finds out what living is truly about. I really loved this movie. Maybe has a feeling like About a Boy, which I too love.
Almost Famous - one of Cameron Crowe's autobiographical movies about being on the road with a rock band in the 70's. Great quotes and superfun soundtrack.
Edward Scissorhands - this is a great geek chick flick. Seriously, Johnny Depp as a Frankenstein with scissors for hands? And there's romance? Too good to pass up.
In America - film about a couple who moves into Hells Kitchen new york to find a better life. This movie is completely touching, I love the scene especially where the oldest daughter sings "Desperado." That scene has so much subtle meaning. Excellent film.
Sunday Survey: iPod FM transmitters - yea or nay? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Aug 6th 2006 1:39PM Over Christmas my old FM Transmitter melted (I have no clue either, i just opened it up to see why it wasn't working and the chipset inside was melted), so I went to Best Buy and grabbed a $100 sony head unit with a front side auxiliary input. It's worked fabulous since then, I run audio straight from the iPod headphones jack to the Sony Head unit, and my audio sounds flawless - even better than a cassette adapter.
Actually I just took a road trip from Alabama to California in a friends car, and had to use their cassette adaptor and it killed my ears. There was a horrible high pitched whine from the cassette that we could not get rid of no matter how we adjusted the EQ or ipod/stereo volume. I'm sticking with my direct input.
Arrested Development creator in talks for a movie {TV Squad}
Jul 12th 2006 10:56AM Ah a low budget, indie version of Arrested Development.
Do you think the family that used to be worth millions would do a cheap movie? I mean COME ON! Haha, you have to be kidding.
No seriously though, I'd go see anything Arrested Development. They could start a Saturday Morning "Arrested Development Babies" cartoon, and I'd watch every week.
Jeffrey M. Anderson's 400 Screens, 400 Blows - From the Shadowy, Dust-Covered Vaults {Cinematical}
Jun 29th 2006 3:04PM Thanks for this post, it was interesting to read and helpful. I'm interested in making movies one day, if that's ever possible. In the meantime I'm using Netflix to learn about film history and this post will help just a little bit more.
This summer I'm trying to self-teach myself the art of silent cinema, in order to help my schools film club learn a little more about film history as well, but it's always good to have other films to view. Thanks!
