Vista successor rumored to be on track for 2009 release {Engadget}

Jan 19th 2008 8:40AM I second the Vista made me switch to Linux. I have been using it for almost a year now and the switch was far less painful than I thought... And honestly, far less painful than a switch to Vista.

Working with a computer company really helps to highlight how much and how many people hate Vista. It seems like it was released to generate more money for the companies affiliated with Microsoft rather than introduce new features and enhancements for the consumer and business.

Rock Band hack turns game drums into real drums, won't improve your timing {Engadget}

Jan 18th 2008 5:44PM ...USB perhaps? I'm guessing that the program would have something that is able to detect that it is some sort of HID?

I'm just guessing though.

Averatec shows off 12.1-inch 2500 laptop {Engadget}

Dec 25th 2007 11:11AM Hmm... I work at a place where we service various computers. I'm absolutely shocked at the number of Avaratecs that come in needing some sort of hardware fix. Almost every single one has had keys that fell off, fans that have failed, and/or a power supply plug that has shattered. And with each one of those, an unhappy customer who constantly rants about how they will never buy anything with the Avaratec name on it ever again.

I think no matter what, I'm gonna heed those customer's "advice" and stay away. :)

How-to guide details fix for stuck LCD pixels {Engadget}

Dec 25th 2007 8:31AM The issue for most it seems is that with one dead pixel, that becomes the focus of the entire screen. It doesn't seem to matter what you are looking at or browsing around, if you have a dead pixel or two, your eyes will always see them.

When I first bought a plasma, I had this issue (no, I'm being serious). I tried to just "deal with it" but it seemed like no matter what time of day or how far I was from the set, I could always see it. Didn't take long for me to return the set and get a better one.

Then I ended up getting one on my laptop. Tried all of these techniques, none of which seemed to work. So, I replaced the whole screen and now I'm pleased. :)

Instructions posted for downgrading iPhone from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 {Engadget}

Nov 9th 2007 5:16PM Ooh... There's an Apple-less free.

Sir, I thank you. I didn't know there was such a thing. :)

Alienware laptops now sporting 640GB of storage {Engadget}

Sep 20th 2007 10:24PM frank, if you are looking for monstrous hard drive capacity, I would highly advise against relying on the laptops inside the hard drive. An external, 3.5" hard drive works perfectly fine. The small size of the music files makes them transfer at what seems like an instant speed. Even better, you can purchase the same hard drive and create mirrored backups just in case the unfortunate ever happens. It's a little difficult to make speedy backups of super spacious hard drives that are trapped inside an over-sized box.

I've always had bad luck with laptop hard drives. It's like their too sensitive.
