Comcast announces new bandwidth throttling scheme (update: old news) {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 4:34PM Ya know, the typical "performance" tier in my area is 12Mbps. 70% of that is 8.4Mbps. That's more than twice what a typical movie needs to stream so there's little chance if a typical movie watcher ever getting nailed by this. Certainly I could stream Netflix shows - which run around 3-4Mbps - all day long and not trigger the congestion threshold.

I do not see this as an issue for the very large majority of users.

T-Mobile 7.2Mbps HSPA rolling out now? {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 1:17PM That's pretty close to what I'm getting: 534/120 also using Xtremelabs Speedtest.

I suspect you and I are one of the few people actually using the right test software with wifi turned off.

Oct 11th 2009 8:16PM Time to dump my TiVo Series 3 and go with an HPTC based on Windows 7 and Media Center.

Poll: Do you / will you use Windows Media Center in your home theater? {Engadget HD}

Aug 1st 2009 5:06PM My TiVo may be failing now, and since I only record local broadcasts and CableCARD is no longer important to me, I don't see why TiVo would be in my future. I'm now starting to look at a Windows Media Center solution but would prefer to buy instead of build (although building is not out of the question). Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of nice-looking HTPC systems available for sale to make my life any easier...
