I am pretty these taiwanese companies outsource production to china as well. What dell does is the the system as a whole. On the componentlevel I am pretty sure there is no difference in quality.

I'll just stop here. That is a key difference in stability and noice levels, making sure the right tempered air comes to the right components with minimal noise. If you don't understand this then there is no argument, you can build a cheaper PC.
BTX is by the also developed for better airflow, but that doesnt matter since it is just a matter of blowing in air to the chassis anyway, right?
On your last point however, you are right, Dell PCs are not very good for swapping components, motherboards I wouldn't recommend anyway but the processor is very hard to change and in at least corporate models the form factor of the PSU is propriety. Making it hard to upgrade to power hungry GPUs.
BTX is not a dell propriety standard, it has been developed by Intel and is a standard which few uses. Its the evolution of the ATX.

Sep 4th 2007 6:03PM Very many "I can do better" comments. Even saying the airflow isn't good from these pictures and that cable management is bad. Wow. Try building a PC with the same spec for the same money and there is no way you can have it run more quit and stable.
These systems are thoruoghly tested for noise and airflow, something that would cost a fortune to do if you tried to do it for one build.
As for windows and glowing insides, well, you are not the kind of person Dell builds PC's for. As for how it looks when the cover is off, well it sure ruins the airflow...
Of course I can't really speak for this models sound level or airflow from these pictures but so can noone else. My experience with (corporate) Dell PC's is that they are super silent. The airflow is excellent and stability top notch.
Trying to build a PC with the same specs is here in sweden no saving at all. We really have no real competition to dell right now if you want intel chipset. And what is wrong with BTX? Is it that it is a result of research and science?

However everything in his article is known facts except maybe the internal project name which doesn't really add any information, the rest is pure speculation, as to what Microsoft might do with the extra space. I don't think they will sell it in parallell with existing SKU and differentiate it. They will just revise the internals just like Sony did with the PS2 all the time. After all, how would they market it? This one doesn't get to hot and brakes within a year?
My two first PS2's broke pretty early with laser issues. Everybody saying Xbox 360 is the worst console ever is either too young or just didn't own a first generation PS2. Commodore 64 had 50% failures out of the box...

Feb 28th 2007 12:30AM Oh and yes I forgot, homebrew is allready here. Sure it won't replace the OS but replacing the OS for no benefits is Linuxtalk for sticking it to the man. You don't have to replace the OS to build a Media Center, you could do it with XNA. You do have to replace the OS with a modified version to play pirate games. So if you don't have broadband (XBL) sure go ahead, but don't tell me it is for any other reason than pirated software.
