We could get an Xbox 360 for $315 USD if the taxes were just 5%, instead of $854 USD for a 360, even if it had a Media Center remote and/or PGR4 and Too Human.

they charge absurdly high taxes on everything, domestic or imported (even more when it's imported. still, Chinese crap remains relatively cheap.)

not even Argentina has taxes THAT high.
also, even telecom here has heavy taxation. São Paulo state alone charges a 25% tax over telecom services. (some states have even higher taxation, such as Rio de Janeiro - 30%)
