My Top 10 list is better than Sci Fi Wire's {TV Squad}
Aug 8th 2008 12:24PM Top ten lists are like @$$h0l3s, everyone has one. Your list isn't better that SciFi's, just different.
I agree Earth 2 was great, and the Flash was fun as well. On SciFi's list I agree with FireFly and Now, and Again.
But the Tick? Really? And War of the Worlds seems to have had too many episodes for this list. Sticks out like a sore thumb. And if you thought Carnivalé should have made the list why wasn't it on yours?
Poll: Do you own / plan to own an HTPC? {Engadget HD}
Jul 5th 2008 3:58PM I have a PC hooked up to my TV, but I only use it for watching torrents. No DVR or tuner capabilities so I wouldn't classify it as an HTPC
The final six deaths on Six Feet Under - VIDEO {TV Squad}
Jul 3rd 2008 12:18PM Agreed that this was the best series finale ever. It's so good that I don't think I could ever watch it again because I don't want to tarnish the feelings I had while watching it, which of course where brought back while reading this review.
What will you be doing with your CRT televisions? {TV Squad}
Jul 2nd 2008 3:24PM Thank you for pointing that out. I get so tired of people confusing the terms digital and HDTV. Digital television can be both SDTV and HDTV. Best Buy and many other retailers still sell CRT TVs that have digital tuners. If you want a TV for your garage and don't have an old one are you going to spend $100-$150 for a tube tv that is more likely to take the abuse of being in the garage, or are you going to buy a flat-panel that has a finite life-span and may not handle the dust and temperature changes a garage can hand it.
I love my HDTV, but I can think of plenty of other cases in addition to the one above where I would want to buy an SDTV CRT.
Sony Ericsson's "Remi" -- W890 style, minus the W? {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 1st 2008 12:09PM The T-610 was my last GSM phone before I started working for Sprint. I had the same signal issues when AT&T was transitioning to Cingular. There was a tower right next to my apartment, but for some reason they turned it off and I couldn't get a signal at home anymore. I don't think I would buy this phone if I were still on GSM though. Looks like it would be too easy to push the wrong menu button.
No plans to strike, says SAG president {TV Squad}
Jun 29th 2008 10:56PM They probably don't want to look like hypocrites as well. During the writers strike non-writers seemed like they almost begging for people to get back to work by the end of it. SAG has seen what happens when one part of the industry goes down and I don't think they are prepared for a repeat. Additionally, they probably don't want to piss off SAG members that are in the higher end of the earnings spectrum. When you are talking about millions of dollars at stake for a negotiation that will have little impact on them, that's going to be a hard pill to swallow.
$179 DXG-567V HD camcorder uploads right to YouTube {Engadget HD}
Jun 27th 2008 10:37AM I have the Aiptek A-HD+ and the quality is pretty decent. It won't replace a name brand HD cam, but it is serving as a nice stop-gap until someone comes out with a good all-in-one solution.
If it uploads to Vimeo, which does allow HD video and much better SD than youtube, then it's a neat feature.
NFL Network to become ESPN 8, THE "OCHO"? {Engadget HD}
Jun 26th 2008 12:18AM These channels are both on the same tier where I live. Combining the channels isn't likely to change whether I subscribe to that to tier, which is to say I still won't.
Jamie Lynn Spears gives birth {TV Squad}
Jun 20th 2008 11:58AM It depends on the state you live in for the most part. The state I live in, Kansas, the age of consent is 16. However, if a 16 year old and a 19 year old were to get together consentingly the 19 year old could be charged with Indecent Liberties with a minor. It's a lesser penalty than rape (my state also did away with the statutory rape designation and combined it into the rape penalty so the sentencing is much harsher). It is a controversial law, but the state wants to keep it on the books so they have a way to punish people in a position of power such as teachers. Otherwise, it is a law that is typically not enforced. Most of the time people just get probation if it's their first offense, which compared to multiple years in jail you would face for a rape charge is considerable less severe. Keep in mind if it was a 15 year-old and an 18 year-old it would be considered rape in my state.
There are also federal laws regarding this but I am not as familiar with them. However, most of time rape is prosecuted at the state or county level. The exception to this is when state lines are crossed (ie transportation of a minor across state lines, kidnapping, etc). At that point the feds get involved.
As to how it works on Californication I have no answer. How laws are portrayed on TV are usually a reflection of want the general public perceives to be accurate. There is probably a law that was broken, but since I am not a resident of that state I am not familiar with their laws and can't answer what crime (if any) was committed.
Kids got asthma? Turn off Naruto {TV Squad}
Jun 18th 2008 5:34PM I remember when I was a kid we spent most of our time during the summer outside, and same was true during the school year in the evenings and weekends. In the Summer we played baseball and in the Winter we played football. Don't get me wrong we played NES as well, but generally only when it was raining, extremely hot, or extremely cold. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was about 8 (20 or so years ago). It made it harder for me to play sports, but it didn't stop me.
My point is that there can be other factors. My brother's TV habits matched those described in the article and he's never had any breathing difficulties. I think it's an interesting correlation, but nothing more.
